First topic message reminder :

So it's finally time for the first YCS of the format.

As you know the first YCS is very important as it ends up dictating the entire format. And even though the format is already predetermined by the trio of pesty Inzectors, loopy wind-ups and the drastic Dino rabbit, decks like Six sams, Bubble beat, TGs and Darkworld are also gaining hype and could be make things interesting if nothing else.

So what are your thought on this event and why?

i'll try to keep this thread updated with all the details.

Well, I'm personally not that surprised, DW is a relatively powerful deck.

Rabbits may have negates, but DW's have discard-spam/destroy xD

That DW player must have either been really good or super sacky to beat rabbit who can side into D Fissure

I personally liked the Heroes build, I mean at first I heard the concept- "Skill Drain Heroes" and thought to myself, "How the heck would that work? Most heroes have effects..."
Watched his deck profile, overall, he seemed pretty darn good.

Glad a Heroes deck got to top 4 :D

that piper deck build was interesting.......some of the choices seemed a biut odd to me but it worked for him

i'm still disapointed by how few people are using dragunities still -.- if i could afford staple synchrons like scrap dragon and brio i would have a godly RL draguniuty deck ._. but i seetle for assualt mode draugntiy instead :/

but yea good thing 2 decks that arent really considered meta decks right now topped XD

Heck, Pipers were considered a fun deck til this guy came up with a Chaos Piper build xD

Cloudians? I didn't really expect to see THAT rogue a deck... anywhere really... Cloudians are good in there own way I guess (don't know much about them), but I doubt they'd hold a candle to DW's, Rabbits, Inzektors etc.

I'm glad Inzektors didn't top. Don't deserve wins >_>
Didn't really expect them too really, seeing as how most people probably sided against them really well.

cloudians died the format fishborg blaster got banned :/ they use to be 1 turn quasar then fishborg got banned and they died.......

EDIT - fixed soemthing ._.

Anyone else think we're going to be seeing A LOT more DW's & Rabbits this format?

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

I'd switch those, considering DW's topped over Rabbits, not by much I'll give it that, but it topped over it all the same.

I definitely expect netdecked versions of the YCS #1 DW deck. :/

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

i expect net deck versions of all top 4 decks lol

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

Meh, Rabbits were always going to be strong and dak world was always there aswell. The biggest impact this is going to have is that there are not only three decks in the format like everyone thought there would be

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

Yeah, I didn't expect a HERO build to top. Much less a Skill Drain Heroes.

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

more_horiz
Yeah, I thought that Heroes died out competitively a long time ago...then I hear of BubbleBeat doing something, and then Skill Drain Heroes gets into the top 4 of the biggest organized tournament in Yu-Gi-Oh history. Looks like we've still got quite a few surprises left in store for us...

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

I figured that if we were going to see heroes competitively we would have seen Masked Heroes, Super poly heroes, etc.
Instead it's Skill Drain Heroes xD

Heroes are heroes though. Glad they got somewhere.

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

It was skill drain hero's because it rapes everything in the format. Think about it, Rabbits are nothing with skill drain up, Wind-Ups are a bunch of >1500 monsters and inzektors just sit a cry without effects

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

more_horiz
Then why didn't a Skill Drain deck get that far? Heroes can wreck havoc and explode in a turn, yes, but they pretty much depend on their effects for the most part. I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though Skill Drain does rape the format, I didn't really expect it to be paired with Heroes, an archetype generally known for very powerful effects.

And Miracle Fusion, but you know what I mean, especially EHeroduelist.

I was there. I entered for two rounds, then I left...
I played two idiots and lost to them both..

picked up some maxx c's tho c;

I know whatcha mean, it was unexpected, but despite only making forth place he did a great job of reading the format and building the deck based entirely upon a hunch. (watched the deck profile.)

Actually, doesn't Rabbit work because removal is a cost & eff activates from RFG? Or am I thinking of other kind of effects?
Although, you're still right about Skill Drain hurting the meta, most cards nowadays rely heavily on effects, like Laggia can't even use negation effect even if Skill Drain doesn't kill Rabbit effect.

As I said, most cards rely on effects, especially Heroes, so a Skill Drain Heroes was unexpected. Howevershe built the deck very well to where the deck doesn't rely heavily on the Heroes' effects & summons huge beaters.

rabbits actually (from what I've heard) as long as skill drain is on the field BEFORE the rabbit, the rabbit can not banish itself for the two manila monsters. (Only what I've heard, don't believe me ._.)

descriptionYCS Long beach, CA - Page 2 EmptyRe: YCS Long beach, CA

Skill Drain only negates the effects of things on the field. Rabbit's banishing effect is a cost, which resolves when banished, so Rabbit cannot, in any way, shape, or form, be stopped by Skill Drain. Laggia and Dolkka, however, are different stories...
