Preliminary
First off to point out, this is not a guide to the card game known as Chaotic, it is a guide to Chaos decks in Yugioh. Secondly this article is not specific to one kind of chaos deck, it is specific to all chaos decks. Thirdly there won’t be any deck lists in this guide or information about the different kinds of chaos decks. This guide is built to help you build a good chaos deck by explaining what the Chaos monsters are and which engines best serve them. We go in depth about the different Chaos Engine so YOU know which engine YOU want to use for YOUR deck. Now then shall we move on?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction to Chaos
So what are the Chaos monsters? Well they are a group of monsters that usually require you to banish 1 DARK monster and/or 1 LIGHT monster, we will get into which monsters are Chaos soon, and they usually have really good effects. 2 of the chaos monsters are able to banish monsters from the field, while another 2 support dragons, and yet another 2 search each other out, and the last 1 totally wipes out the field and hands and inflicts burn damage. Alright enough teasing, let us get down to business shall we?
The Original Chaos Monsters
Spoiler :
Chaos Sorcerer wrote:Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field: banish that target. This card cannot attack during the turn you activate this effect.
Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning wrote:Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can activate 1 of these effects.
● Target 1 monster on the field; banish that target face-up. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.
● During the Damage Step, if this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: It can make a second attack in a row.
Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End wrote:This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster in your Graveyard. You can pay 1000 Life Points to send all cards in both players' hands and on the field to the Graveyard. Inflict 300 damage to your opponent for each card that is sent to the Graveyard by this effect.
Ah yes the original Chaos monsters, each with the condition of banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK from your Graveyard to Special Summon them. These 3 cards have made such an impact on the game that each of them have gotten on the Forbidden/Limited list, Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End is banned and both Chaos Sorcerer and Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning are limited. Since Envoy of the End is banned we won’t go into much detail about him, just make sure to always play him if you play in traditional format.
Now the let’s start with Envoy of the Beginning. He has 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF which makes a good beater and wall. He can target one monster on the field and banish it, that’s right it doesn’t have to be face-up, or he can attack once again in a row after destroying a opponents monster, it should be noted however that he can only attack twice and not an extra time for every monster he destroys. He is level 8 so that means quick rank 8 XYZ. And finally his LIGHT attribute makes him playable with Honest meaning that a bigger beater on the field can’t get pass him. You should always run him, and as many copies as possible, in ANY Chaos deck, no exceptions.
Now onto Chaos Sorcerer. He can target 1 face-up monster on the field and banish it, good effect but a weaker version of Envoy of the Beginning’s effect but Chaos Sorcerer shines in other areas. It is DARK attribute which means an emergency Allure of Darkness target if you really need the draws. He is level 6 which means easy rank 6 XYZs, which are the best XYZs as of now, and easy level 7 and 8 Synchros, which are the best Synchros as of now, and he is a Spellcaster which means easy Arcanite Magician plays with a level 1 tuner. He should always be ran in any Chaos deck, and as many copies that are possible, due to his amazing versatility.
The Chaos Dragons
Spoiler :
LightPulsar Dragon wrote:You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. You can Special Summon this card (from your Graveyard) by sending 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your hand to the Graveyard. When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can target 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Dragon-Type monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.
Darkflare Dragon wrote:You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn: You can send 1 Dragon-Type monster from your hand and 1 Dragon-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard, then target 1 card in either player's Graveyard; banish that target.
These 2 guys also require you to banish 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster to Special Summon them but unlike the Original Chaos monsters they aren’t splashable into every Chaos deck. This is because they support Dragon type monsters than having effects that are more splashable. Lightpulsar can Special Summon any level 5 or higher DARK dragon monster from your Graveyard if he is sent to the Graveyard from the field, he is also level 6 meaning easy Rank 6 XYZs and Level 7 and 8 Synchros, and he is LIGHT attribute which means Honest support. Darkflare on the other hand dumps Dragon types into your Graveyard so you can perform devastating plays, is a level 5 so easy Rank 5s and Level 6 and 7 Synchros, and is a DARK monster so it is a good Allure of Darkness target. Lightpulsar should be played at 3 in a Chaos deck that is Dragon based. Darkflare should be played at 2 in a Chaos deck that is Dragon based.
The Chaos Twins
Spoiler :
Collapsarpent the Ebony Dragon wrote:Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT monster from your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. You can only Special Summon 1 "Collapsarpent the Ebony Dragon" per turn. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can add 1 "Wyburstar the Ivory Dragon" from your Deck to your hand.
Wyburstar the Ivory Dragon wrote:Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. You can only Special Summon 1 "Wyburstar the Ivory Dragon" per turn. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can add 1 "Collapsarpent the Ebony Dragon" from your Deck to your hand.
Ah yes the Chaos Twins Ebony and Ivory. Now you might be thinking why I didn’t put them in as Chaos Dragons seeing as they are both Dragon type. Well that is fairly simple, the Chaos Dragons support Dragon types while Ebony and Ivory Support each other. Ebony requires you to banish 1 LIGHT monster from your Graveyard to Special Summon it while Ivory requires you to banish 1 DARK monster to Special Summon and when one of them leaves the field and gets sent to the Graveyard they search the other one out and thanks to the wording of them they don’t miss timing if sent to the graveyard as a tribute or Synchro material. These guys are great for Chaos decks but they can take up room if you run them making them not as used so much, they should be ran at 2 or 3 each and are best in Turbo and Synchro variants for Chaos decks.

Chaos Engines
Now for the part you have all been waiting for. The different Chaos engines that are seen in Chaos decks and what cards are required for them. There isn’t much to say here so why don’t we just get to the engines?
Piper Engine
Spoiler :
Mystic Piper wrote:You can Tribute this card to draw and reveal 1 card. If that card is a Level 1 Monster Card, draw 1 more card. The effect of "Mystic Piper" can only be activated once per turn.
Kinka-byo wrote:This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to its owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn it is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up. When this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up, you can Special Summon 1 Level 1 monster from your Graveyard. When this card is removed from the field, remove from play that monster.
One forOne wrote:Send 1 monster from your hand to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 Level 1 monster from your hand or Deck.
Ah yes the Piper engine, perhaps the most consistent chaos engine out there. This engine is fairly simple; you use Mystic Piper and a bunch of level 1 monsters to get a bunch of draws while filling the grave up easily to bring out your Chaos Monsters. You use Kinka-byo to reuse Piper and keep filling your hand up. Piper is in general a +0 or +1 card depending on your draw with it. But you have to be careful as Piper is susceptible to Effect Veiler which leaves you with a 0 ATK monster meaning you could take allot of damage. Obviously we use One for One to get Piper out faster and use its effect to get a draw(s). I recommend using 3 Mystic Pipers, 3 Kinka-byo, the only One for One you have, and 5-8 other Level 1 monsters. Some very good Level 1 monster to go with Piper are, Effect Veiler, Unknown Synchron, Jester Confit, Battle Fader, Cyber Valley, and D.D. Crow but don’t get me wrong now there are plenty of other good Level 1 monsters to use but these are the most common and best.
Lightsworn Engine
Spoiler :
Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter wrote:FLIP: You can target 1 card on the field; destroy that target. Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.
Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress wrote:During your Main Phase: You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; change this card you control from face-up Attack Position to face-up Defense Position, and destroy that target, but this card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, except with a card effect. During each of your End Phases: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard. You must control this face-up card to activate and to resolve this effect.
Charge of the Light Brigade wrote:Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard; add 1 Level 4 or lower "Lightsworn" monster from your Deck to your hand.
Ah yes the Lightsworn engine, the most common seen and splashable Chaos engine out there. This is another simple Engine. You use Ryko, Lyla, and Charge to quickly thin out your deck while dumping the required monsters for your Chaos monsters into the grave. It is a very fast engine but has one major fault; it is entirely luck based which can make it extremely inconsistent. This engine has the potential of setting up your grave in a very good way but it is also able to cripple your Graveyard irreparably. If you end up milling your Chaos monsters along with cards that recycle them you lose any hope of bringing them out. In other words this engine has the potential to ruin you or save you, it all depends on your mills. You want to run Ryko at 2-3, Lyla at 2-3, and Charge at 1, since that is all you get. You can also consider running more Lightsworns, which if you do you have to tech in Solar Recharge and possibly Judgment Dragon, and you definitely want to run Pot of Avarice.
Necroface Engine
Spoiler :
Necroface wrote:When this card is Normal Summoned, shuffle all removed from play cards into their owners' Decks. This card gains 100 ATK for each of those cards. When this card is removed from play, both players remove from play the top 5 cards of their Deck.
Gold Sarcophagus wrote:Banish 1 card from your Deck, face-up. During your second Standby Phase after this card's activation, add that card to your hand.
Dimensional Alchemist wrote:Once per turn, you can activate this effect to remove from play the top card of your Deck and give this card 500 ATK until the End Phase. When this card is destroyed and sent from your side of the field to your Graveyard, you can select 1 of your removed from play monsters and return it to your hand.
Tour Guide From the Underworld wrote:When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 Fiend-Type monster from your hand or Deck. Its effects are negated, and it cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster.
Leviair the Sea Dragon wrote:2 Level 3 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 banished Level 4 or lower monster; Special Summon that target to your side of the field
Alright now we get to the Necroface engine, the most annoying Chaos engine for your opponents. The idea of this engine is to get your Necroface banished as fast as possible via Gold Sarcophagus and then recycling the cards you banished with Necroface, who returns all banished cards back into the Deck, with Alchemist, who allows you to get one of your banished monsters back into your hand when it is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, and Tour Guide to Leviair plays, allowing you to Special Summon you level 4 or lower banished monsters. By doing this you are easily filling up your Graveyard with LIGHTs and DARKs and still taking advantage of your cards. Then once Sarcophagus’ effect resolves and you add Necroface back to hand you can Normal Summon it to get a big beater on the field and once it hits the grave you can banish it for your Chaos monsters for more abuse. Necroface should be ran at the maximum amount you are allowed, in this case one, Sarcophagus should be ran at 3, Alchemist should be ran 2-3, Tour Guide should be at maximum allowed, in this case 2, and Leviair should be ran at 2. Another good card for this engine would be Allure of Darkness.
Generic Engine
Spoiler :
Thunder King Rai-Oh wrote:Neither player can add cards from their Deck to their hand except by drawing them. During either player's turn, when your opponent would Special Summon a monster: You can send this face-up card to the Graveyard; negate the Special Summon, and if you do, destroy it.
Doomcaliber Knight wrote:Cannot be Special Summoned. During either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated: Tribute this face-up card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that monster.
The Generic engine is quite simple; use cards like Thunder King Rai-Oh, Doomcaliber Knight, Effect Veiler, D.D. Crow, Tour Guide from the Underworld, Cyber Dragon, and ECT… to quickly fill up your Graveyard with your Chaos Monsters. Nothing more to it than that. The Generic engine is quite splashable however and can even be combined with other engines, I do not recommend using this engine by itself due to the fact that it is slow when compared to the previous engines.
