if i use diamond dude's effect to activate polymerization do i have to send the fusion materials to the graveyard?

Yes because it's part of Polymerization's effect, if you don't have the fusion material monsters in your hand or field you can't activate the effect.

Yea if you don't have the materials you just sended it and nothing happens
