------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 1
Mago won the R/P/S and got to start things off. He started things up by summoning Tour Guide from the Underworld, and used her effect to summon a 2nd Tour Guide from his deck. He overlayed them for Wind-Up Zenmaity, then pitched a mat for his effect to summon out Wind-Up Magician in defense mode. He revealed Wind-Up Shark in his hand and special summoned it in defense mode in response to the successful summon of Magician. Shark summon is an effect, and that let Mago set off Magician's effect, which allowed him to summon a 2nd Magician from his deck to the field in defense position. He used Shark's effect to make itself level 3, which set of the 2nd Magician's effect, allowing him to summon a 3rd Magician to the field in defense position! He overlayed his 3 Magicians to bring out Shock Master, then set 2 cards to his backrow and used Shock Master's effect, declaring Spells. That is the type of 1st turn every Wind-Up player hopes for! Would Slonaka have an answer?
Slonaka started things up with a hand of: Rescue Rabbit, Dark Hole, Dimensional Prison, Pot of Avarice, Torrential Tribute and Bottomless Trap Hole. Dark Hole was useless due to Shock Master's effect. Slonaka summoned Rescue Rabbit and managed to successfully banish it to bring out 2 copies of Kabazauls, however Mago responded to the summoned Kabazauls with Bottomless Trap Hole, banishing both of the monsters! Slonaka set all 3 of his trap cards and ended his turn. On Mago's turn, he immediately activated Shock Master's effect and declared Traps this time. He activated Zenmaity's effect and brought out a Shark with it from his deck in defense position. The 2 Sharks on his field got powered up to level 5, and were then overlayed for Wind-Up Arsenal Zenmaioh! He detached a Shark from Zenmaioh to destroy Slonaka's face-down Dimensional Prison and Bottomless Trap Hole. Mago then summoned Wind-Up Rat and turned it to defense position to special summon a Shark from his graveyard in defense position. Shark got downgraded to level 3 and was then overlayed with Rat to bring out Leviair the Sea Dragon. He pitched the Rat off of Leviair to special summon Slonaka's banished Kabazauls. With Kabazauls, Leviair, Zenmaioh, Zenmaity, and Shock Master on the field, Mago had 9900 ATK worth of monsters - more than enough to wipe out Slonaka's Life Points!
Things start off strong for Mago as he strings together a long list of Wind-Up combos for an overwhelming advantage! Slonaka will have to do something drastic to turn things around if he wants to make a comeback!

GAME 2
Siding occurred, and Slonaka started of game 2 with a hand of: Forbidden Lance, 2 copies of Rescue Rabbit, Tour Guide from the Underworld, Starlight Road, and Compulsory Evacuation Device. That's about as good as any Rabbit player can hope for! He summoned Rescue Rabbit, but was denied its effect by Effect Veiler! Slonaka set Lance, Road, and his Device and ended with Rescue Rabbit still on the field. This is an acceptable play, although since he had Tour Guide in-hand, an optional play that is just as good is to banish Rescue Rabbit anyway without receiving any summons. Then on the next turn, Tour Guide can bring out Leviair, who can retrieve Rabbit. This means no getting messed with if the opponent manages to put Rabbit in the grave on the opponent's turn. That being said, Slonaka had a lot of backrow available for defense, so either course in this case was perfectly reasonably.
Mago started off his turn with Heavy Storm. This should be considered a misplay, simply because at this level you should assume that if your opponent starts off by setting 3 cards, that he either has Starlight Road or Solemn Judgment to back them up and protect them. Slonaka chained his Starlight Road and brought out Stardust Dragon. Mago set a monster and 2 backrow cards before ending his turn. Slonaka drew for his turn and picked up a Sabersaurus. He activated his Rabbit's effect, which went through this time, and brought out 2 copies of Sabersaurus (the correct move, since if he drew into 1 more they would all be worthless). He then summoned his 3rd Sabersaurus from his hand! Mago activated Torrential Tribute in response, and Slonaka tributed Stardust Dragon to negate it (Stardust Dragon does not come back during the End Phase when summoned by Starlight Road, because it was never properly Synchro Summoned). Next, Slonaka overlayed 2 of his Sabersaurus to bring out Evolzar Dolkka, and Mago responded to this with Solemn Warning, paying 2000 Life Points to negate the summon. Still, this was good for Slonaka, because Mago at this point had just 1 card on the field and 1 in-hand, while Slonaka still had 2 face-downs, his Sabersaurus, and a Tour Guide and Rescue Rabbit still in-hand - a very dominating position for him to be in! He attacked Mago's face-down with Sabersaurus and it turned out to be Sangan, which searched out Wind-Up Shark. Slonaka ended his turn.
Mago drew to 3 cards, and then summoned Wind-Up Magician. Slonaka allowed it, and Mago showed Shark and summoned it in defense position. Then Magician's effect went off to bring out another Magician in defense position to the field. Shark's effect leveled him up to 5 and allowed Magician to summon a 2nd Shark from the deck in defense position. The 2nd Shark was also upgraded to level 5, and the 2 Sharks were overlayed for Tiras, Keeper of Genesis. Slonaka responded to the summon with Compulsory Evacuation Device to flip Tiras back to the Extra deck. Next, the Magicians were overlayed to bring out Maestroke the Symphony Djinn. Mago took a mat off Maestroke to turn Sabersaurus face-down, and then attacked and destroyed it before ending his turn.
Slonaka drew Monster Reborn on his turn! He summoned Rescue Rabbit, but was denied its effect again by Effect Veiler! He activated Monster Reborn to bring back Sabersaurus, then overlayed Sabersaurus with Rabbit to summon Number 39: Utopia. Utopia attacked Maestroke, who survived by pitching his last mat, and brought Mago down to 5300 LP, while Slonaka still stood tall with a full 8000. Slonaka ended his turn. Mago turned Maestroke to defense position and then set his 1 in-hand card before ending his turn.
Slonaka draw Mystical Space Typhoon (ouch!) on his turn. Typhoon cleared the Wind-Up Factory that Mago had bluffed as a trap. Tour Guide got summoned and Mago knew that Leviair would come to bring back Rabbit who could bring out 2 copies of Kabazauls for enough ATK to finish the duel.
Slonaka gets his own godly hand in response to Mago's godly hand in the first game! Could Slonaka make a full comeback and be the first to beat Mago in a YCS match? We shall see after this commercial break!

GAME 3
And we're back. No siding occurred during the commercial, because both duelists apparently felt confident that they had sided well enough after the first game. Mago started off the 1st duel by summoning Wind-Up Shark. He then activated Wind-Up Factory and downgraded Shark to level 3 to set off Factory, which let him search out Wind-Up Rat and add it to his hand. He set 1 card and ended his turn. Slonaka opened up with a hand of: Heavy Storm, Tour Guide from the Underworld, Solemn Warning, Forbidden Lance, Book of Moon, and Black Luster Soldier, Envoy of the Beginning. He activated Heavy Storm to clear out Factory and Mago's face-down Dimensional Prison. Next, he summoned Tour Guide but was denied her effect by Effect Veiler! Slonaka decided to take the risky play of setting all of Book of Moon, Warning, and Lance before ending his turn.
Mago jumped right into his Battle Phase and attacked Tour Guide with Shark. In the Damage Step, Slonaka flipped Lance to win the battle and deal 300 damage to Mago. Mago set another monster before ending his turn. Things were going at a much slower pace so far this 3rd game. On his turn, Slonaka topped a Rescue Rabbit >_<. The Rabbit was successfully summoned and banished to bring out 2 copies of Kabazauls. The Kabazauls got overlayed to form Dolkka (a wish choice, since he is better at stopping Wind-Up plays and chance are the face-down monster has an effect, otherwise Mago would have summoned the Rat he searched out with Factory). Dolkka attacked into Snowman Eater, and Dolkka detached a Kabazauls to negate its destruction effect. Tour Guide attacked directly for 1000 damage, dropping Mago down to 6700 LP. Slonaka ended with Dolkka, Tour Guide, Warning, and Book on his field, and that Black Luster Soldier still in his hand.
Mago set another monsterfor his turn and ended. He was likely looking to use up Dolkka's last mat so that he could play Wind-Up Rat on his next turn. Slonaka drew into Torrential Tribute, and then Dolkka attacked into a 2nd Snowman Eater! He lost his last mat, and Tour Guide attacked for another 1000 damage before Slonaka ended.
With no more mats on Dolkka, Mago summoned Wind-Up Rat, but was denied by Solemn Warning! Mago used Soul Taker to destroy Dolkka and then ended his turn with an open field. It was correct for Slonaka to allow Dolkka to be destroyed rather than saving it with Book of Moon, because Book needed to be saved to shut down any potential Wind-Up combos. Slonaka got a Maxx "C" on his turn and proceeded to deal another 1000 damage with Tour Guide. In Main Phase 2, he set Torrential Tribute before ending his turn.
Mago opened up with Mystical Space Typhoon to blow away Torrential Tribute. He next summoned Sangan and attempted to take down both Sangan and Tour Guide in battle, but got denied by Book of Moon. Mago ended with just the face-down Sangan on the field and 1 card in-hand. On his turn, Slonaka drew into his 2nd copy of Tour Guide. He summoned her and used her effect to bring out Sangan! The 2 Tour Guides were overlayed for Leviair, who brought back Rabbit, who brought out 2 copies of Sabersaurus. There was no need for Dolkka, since he knew the face-down monster was Sangan. As long as the in-hand card wasn't Gorz or Tragoedia, this was a won game. Sangan attacked Sangan and destroyed it allowing Mago to search out Wind-Up Shark. Everyone else attacked and with no Gorz that was game!
Slonaka wins the game with a beautifully top decked Tour Guide to become the 1st person to defeat Mago in a YCS Tournament duel! Congratulations to Slonaka and I'm sure we'll see both of these duelists again in the Top 16!
