Featured Match 3

Today, we'll be looking at a Swiss Round 6 match-up between yuseifudo33's (yusei's) unique Koa'ki Inzektors and LethalAfterZ's (Lethal's) Dino Rabbit. Will standard win, or will the unique combos in yusei's deck be enough to bust through and move him forward? Let's find out!

Lethal won the R/P/S and started things off in round 1 with his deck's signature move of summoning Rescue Rabbit! He banished the Rabbit to bring out 2 copies of Sabersaurus from his deck and then overlayed them to form Evolzar Laggia! To shore up his field he placed 2 cards to his back row and ended. With such a strong starting play from Lethal, can yusei bust through? Yusei started his 1st turn with Forbidden Lance, 2 copies of Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru, Fiendish Chain, Solemn Warning, and Inzektor Centipede. He normal summoned Centipede and Lethal took 2000 damage to flip a Solemn Warning to negate the summon, being sure to save his Laggia's effect for later. Yusei set an Iron Core, Fiendish Chain, and his own Warning before ending.

Lethal continued the aggression by summoning another copy of Sabersaurus. Sabersaurus attacked to drop yusei down to 6100 LP. When Laggia went to attack, yusei flipped Fiendish Chain, but Lethal was ready for it! Rather than use Laggia's effect to negate it, Lethal flipped his own copy of Forbidden Lance to allow Laggia to continue her onslaught, knocking him down to 4500 LP. This could be considered a blunder, because Fiendish Chain was not destroyed and on yusei's next turn, Laggia's effect would be negated. Better would have been to use Laggia to destroy the Chain and leave Lance for later uses. Yusei drew for his turn and got Koa'ki Meiru Boulder. He set it and ended. It may have been arguably better to let him smash into Sabersaurus and then use Lance to let him win the battle, but saving Lance for a later use is just as viable an option.

Lethal drew and then happily granted himself a +2 when he activated Heavy Storm to wipe out yusei's entire back row! After Lethal summoned Kabazauls, yusei knew a Dolkka was coming to finish him off and conceded.

Lethal takes the 1st duel with a turn 1 Rescue Rabbit and yusei just wasn't able to make enough headway to punch through Lethal's defenses.

After siding commenced, yusei went 1st in round 2 and received a starting hand of: Tour Guide of the Underworld, Armageddon Knight, Inzektor Hornet, Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru, Inzektor Dragonfly, and Allure of Darkness. I don't think anyone can ask for much better. He activated Allure to draw Urnight and another Iron Core, then removed Dragonfly from his hand. Personally, I think I would've chosen Armageddon Knight, since having a Dragonfly and Hornet in the starting hand is nice in so many ways. He summoned Armageddon Knight and used his effect to pitch a Hornet to his grave and then ended his turn. Lethal was up but had no monsters to summon, so he set 4 face-downs (obviously praying his opponent didn't have a Heavy Storm) and ended.

yusei drew into his 3rd Iron Core >.<. He summoned Urnight and used his effect to bring out Koa'ki Meiru Guardian. He then overlayed Urnight and Armageddon Knight to form Number 39: Utopia in defense mode. Guardian attacked successfully, and yusei pitched an Iron Core during his end phase to keep Guardina on the field. Lethal drew and summoned Sabersaurus, then set a 5th face-down before ending his turn.

Yusei drew Mirror of Oaths and then normal summoned Inzektor Hornet and Lethal flipped a Fiendish Chain to stop it from receiving its effect. Yusei entered the Battle Phase and tried to attack Sabersaurus with Guardian, but Lethal flipped Forbidden Lance to let Sabersaurus win the battle. Yusei set Mirror of Oaths and both of his Iron Cores before ending his turn. During the End Phase, Lethal flipped a Mystical Space Typhoon, but ended up just hitting 1 of the Iron Cores. Lethal summoned Rescue Rabbit and fell right into yusei's trap when he banished it to try to summon 2 more copies of Sabersaurus. Yusei flipped Mirror of Oaths and Lethal was forced to pay half his life points and activate Solemn Judgment just to keep his monsters on the field. Lethal took the 2 Sabersaurus he summoned and overlayed them to form Laggia (this could be viewed as a mistake, since summoning Dolkka would have let him run over Utopia with ease while still having a face-down to protect himself with. Sabersaurus attacked Hornet and yusei let the attack go through, taking 1400 damage. When Laggia attempted to attack it was blocked by Utopia's effect.

On his turn, yusei got himself a 2nd copy of Tour Guide. He summoned it and Lethal flipped a Solemn Warning, bringing himself down to just 1050 LP! Utopia was switched to attack position and with no more back row cards, yusei knew it was safe to attack Laggia! Yusei ended. Lethal drew and then activated Monster Reborn to bring back a Sabersaurus! He overlayed his 2 Sabersaurus to bring out his own copy of Utopia, and then he brought out Number C39: Utopia Ray! With only 950 LP, he could remove a Sabersaurus to use Utopia Ray's effect to increase its ATK by 500 and decrease yusei's Utopia's ATK by 1000 until the End Phase. Unfortunately, yusei's Utopia still had a Xyz material on it and he was able to negate the attack. It was all over the next turn when yusei summoned his other copy of Tour Guide!

A blunder of summoning Laggia instead of Dolkka costs Lethal the duel, but allowed us to move on to an ace match!

Lethal started off round 3 by summoning Sabersaurus and setting a face-down. Yusei opened with 2 copies of Dragonfly, 2 copies of Call of the Haunted, Solemn Warning, and Maxx "C". He set a Dragonfly, a Call of the Haunted, and Solemn Warning before ending his turn.

Lethal attempted to summon Rescue Rabbit on his turn but was shut down by yusei's Solemn Warning. Sabersaurus took out Dragonfly before Lethal ended his turn. Yusei drew and summoned Armageddon Knight and used its ability to toss Inzektor Hornet into his grave. Things were about to get very nasty very quickly if Lethal's face-down couldn't stop this play. Yusei activated Call of the Haunted to bring back Dragonfly, and Lethal had an Effect Veiler waiting for it. Yusei ended his turn without setting his other copy of Call of the Haunted. Personally, I think he should have set it, as it would have given him 2 chances to summon Dragonfly and begin an OTK combo on his next turn.

Lethal drew, and then summoned Tour Guide! Yusei pitched Maxx "C", but would that be enough to overcome the inevitable onslaught? Tour Guide brought out Sangan and yusei drew an Iron Core. Sabersaurus ran over Armageddon Knight and Sangan crashed itself into Dragonfly, allowing Lethal to search out another copy of Tour Guide from his deck. Tour Guide attacked and dropped yusei down to 4500 LP, and Lethal ended his turn. This is just a personal opinion, but sometimes people see Maxx "C" and forget to think because they get too worried about their opponent drawing cards. The 1st draw results in +0 advantage, and Lethal already had a large card advantage. What Lethal didn't have was strong field presence, and with yusei having all the pieces necessary in his graveyard to cause some real trouble, it would have probably been worth giving yusei a +1 and bust out an Acid Golem or Zenmaines to give himself some field presence. Anyways, yusei drew Centipede and then summoned Dragonfly. He attempted to use Dragonfly's effect but Lethal chained a D.D. Crow to get rid of the targeted Hornet. Dragonfly crashed into Tour Guide to take them both out, and then yusei set both Iron Core and Call of the Haunted before ending his turn.

Lethal summoned the Tour Guide he'd gotten from Sangan earlier and used it to bring out a 3rd Tour Guide. Yusei knew he'd have no response to Leviair, who could bring back Rabbit to form a Laggia, and he admitted defeat, giving LethalAfterZ the final victory of the match!

yuseifudo33 makes a valiant effort, but is unable to pull off any of his big Koa'ki Meiru or Inzektor combos in any of the 3 duels of the match and LethalAfterZ wins it with some solid standard play.
