Speed is a crucial part of any good deck. Some archetypes are relatively slow, and this means you have to adjust the gameplay to your style, make your opponent play as slowly as you while you work better than them in that situation.

There are many things to talk about in this discussion.

Speed is the crux the drives consistency in all decks. It can come in several forms, and some of the most common are:

1. Draw Power - straight up drawing through your deck to get a better chance at finding the cards you need.
2. Searchability - being able to toolbox what you need by searching for specific cards in your deck. As a side effect, it also thins the deck making it easier for you to draw into other cards you may need.
3. Mill Power - some decks rely on getting the cards they need to the graveyard, and they can then be summoned or effects used from there.
4. Stall Power - typically a weaker choice nowadays, but the idea is to stall your opponent until you are able to draw into what you need to win.

Not to mention the fact that Stalling is easy to cripple with the right cards.
Example being that if you're depending on your field setup with Marshmallon (or something of this nature) and Level Limit - Area B, all it takes to topple it is an MST and Dark Hole/Skill Drain/etc.

the most consistent form of speed is Draw power imo. As neko said, it usually lets you draw into what you need.

Searching for speed is a pain late game, but is fairly helpful near the beginning of the game.
Reason being? You draw into your searching cards first, you get monsters and your deck is slimmer to allow for better draws.
If you draw your searching cards late in the game, chances are you're going to have little options to search for (worst case scenario you draw a searcher with nothing to search for).

Milling is a veeeery risky form of speed, because despite the increased probability of drawing the cards you need, theres just as good a chance you're milling all those goods draws away. I can't even count the number of times I've laughed at people who mill a large number of limited cards (BLS, Monster Reborn, Dark Hole, Heavy Storm, etc).

Draw power is the strongest form of speed, but, the conditions for the drawing is difficult to achieve to get anything beyond a +0, extremely so for +1's.

So did I. It's part of the deckbuilder's guide.

Good. I'd like to see some specific card examples now, like reckless greed, upstart goblin, duality, avarice ETC.

(Arche)Type-specific cards, such as E - Emergency Call, Reinforcements of the Army, Fire Dance - Tenki and such are crucial for almost any deck that relies on Lv4 monsters like above mentioned.

Other factors for speed are cards like Green, Yellow and Red Gadget which allow you to +1 at their bare summon, combined with cards like Fire Dance - Tensu and Ultimate Offering, those cards enormously slim your deck for more consistent and thus better draws.

Forbidden cards are the best draw engine, obviously. :/
