First topic message reminder :

So, Since I joined Dueling Network the only thing I've seen with (very few exceptions) is people building a deck to win and then ditch it the moment it's hit by the banlist or the moment an even more powerful deck comes out.

"What happened to all those Six Sam players?" "Playing Inzektor now" "oh ok."

My question is, does anybody here actually play decks because you like the monsters, the designs, the art, the way they play, to mirror X character you loved from the anime? Do you like the monsters you chose to build?

Or do you just take a deck to win and then move on to the next one?

In my case I've been player a weird Spellcaster deck I built when I was 12, its a bit slow but I love it, after a while I built HERO beatdown and Photons, and no matter what happens I think I will keep playing with these 3 decks even if I lose often.Because I love the card designs for them and have a kind of care for those monsters.

What do you think?

its very subjective and depends of what u want from yugi, to have fun or to win, myself i want both in dn i play all kind of decks from meta like rabbit or wind ups to norleras and all kind of weird stuff. but i will always be inclined to the decks that i spend a lot of times on building testing and been with me from a long time im not triying to sound like yugi but when u play from 3 years little more or less with a deck somehow u have a connection or something and thats why i use them more for example ls in my case. so its not the same for all the players and every person has its own motivation to play the deck that he/she play.

Meta players have ruined alot of good decks, like Samurai. It's like the moment you see them play a card of that archetype you think, "Great another netdecker."

This isn't always the case, fortunately. It is enough for me to want to run something else though, like my newest Spellcaster deck: Gagaga Village.

Anyways, a lot of duelists have lost their creative spark, and that is a shame. I try to be original these days and the problem is that most creative decks will be crushed against the meta. Its sad but true. My poor Dark Magician has to sit this format out.

I know what you mean Nottu. I still love the old Blue Eyes and Dark Magician cards, but these days its very difficult to create a deck that uses the old gems in an effective way without being crushed by the meta formula.

I tend to make decks based around the cards I like, such as BEWD, Black Rose or Silent Swordsman, but they just end up being cannon fodder. Creativity doesn't bring guaranteed victory, so a lot of people don't use it, and shun it in favour of a copy-paste of the winning decks on the net.

I only just started playing again and I've already seen this. You look around the net for a little tip on whether Card A or Card B works better with Card C and you find 1000s of posts telling people to run almost the exact same decks as each other.

I already miss the days when there was just a couple of booster packs, one or two structure decks and a lot of creativity, considering the lack of variety in cards at the time.

And yet now that we have such a huge variety of cards, rather than an increase in creativity, we find it almost perishing completely...

i started playing this game in the middle of tele-DAD era.at first i played with old school dragons, and i really enjoyed that deck.when i found out about serious meta game,i started netdecking and just playing for the win for so long, over 1 year.then i realized how lame i was and started building my own versions of meta decks, mostly lightsworn mix decks, because i love lightsworns so much.i kept my meta dueling style until this March 2012 format, when i was severly pissed off after seeing my bulb and spore on ban list.i carefuly analyzed meta and started working on my personal anti-meta deck, and i realized that im the kind of a player who likes to have control entire duel.i love the fact i can use my own strategies and still stay competitive, while enjoying my deck so much.
message to all duelists who think they are almighty just because they can use meta:
no matter how fast and strong your deck is,creativity will always surpass meta decks, only if its user is experienced enough and knows with what is he/she dealing it,if his/her strategy is deep, unlike autopilot meta.

I'm late as Hell.

But I feel the same you do. I generally hate meta decks period. I can't stand inzektors. I never used any of the meta decks. Well except gravekeepers and they are anti-meta. I still use them and intend to take them to the next lvl ftw! I mean you should be happy some one played six sams and i dont know if it was the wcq's or the ycs central america, but they won first place. People are mad saying it was a fluke lol, not even you just gotta learn
how to play the game....and i mean fluke common; that person beat over
100 ppl! And a gravekeeper deck made top 32 in chicago ycs. - I mean its going to happen ppl are going to move on and try new things. People are just power hungry as well. Usually when ppl play in a tourny it is to win. I would join to top and show ppl that my deck, my grave keepers still have potential. Never the less these new meta decks are going to get hit hard with the banlist soon; so it does not matter.

Poor harpie ladies by the way

Only meta deck I use is Dark World because its my real life deck, and really cheap. Not sure if HERO is still considered meta, but HEROs I am just a big fanboy of in all their variants like destiny, evil, elemental, masked, neos... But I did try using a six sam deck on DN yesterday that I made myself, and I felt bad using it. Gate and shi en I guess many will always hate, including myself.

I totally agree, like it is saying in my signature cards before had soul, you was connected to them. Now they are just things that help you win. It was difficult as hell before to bring monster with 2500+ atk on field. Now you can easily summon more stronger monsters so I hate all that special summoning, exceed, xyz, everything besides good old fusion and ritual.
In first league season I used dragon deck edited by me that hasnt have any of these new type of summoning, only good old sacrifice and I was 9. of 137. at the end.
Just now I decide to use Chaos Dragon deck and I won 5 out of 6 matches but after every win I dont have that good feeling as before.
BUT IN MY EVERY DECK THERE WILL BE PLACE FOR BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON AS DEDICATION TO GOOD OLD TIMES.
