Gozen and the attributes

well here's the problem

I have Gozen Match on my field and a monster

my opponent has a light monster on his field can he tribute it to summon a dark monster like Caius

the answer may be obvious but i have heard conflicting opinions so i just want a clear cut answer

Yes he can .

the card says each player can only control monsters of the same attribute so im not sure

and next time if anyone posts can they give a more . . deatailed xplaination
