Industrial Illusions welcomes all students to the Duel Academy Card Genesis Competition! 

------------------------------------------------

In this tournament of the wits, you will be asked to create a set of cards for a specific set of criteria that will change each week, 


Rules:

1) Only one submission per user, so make it count!


2) Written cards are accepted alongside card images.


3) If submitting card images, make sure to also post the written effect, as to make it easier for judges to read.


4) Please try to use decent grammar when writing cards, this won't be strictly enforced, as we are aware that English is not everybody's native language, but please don't be simply lazy with it. Problem solving card text is also very helpful in understanding a card, see the following link: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Problem-Solving_Card_Text


5) You may edit your cards up until the deadline of the competition


6) Please make sure to read the judging criteria for this event, it is rather important.


7) No copy-pasting the effects of existing cards, make it interesting people...


Theme: Create something that this game has never seen before, a new mechanic a new summoning method, or a new monster/spell/trap type or maybe even a new type of card entirely (show me those fusion xyz monsters @metaphyshunter) and make 3-5 cards of that new.... THING

Judging Criteria:

Naturally, it is of the utmost importance that we have a set of criteria to determine the best of the pack!


1) Balance: This determines how well you have designed the card, whether it isn't over/under-powered in general and whether or not the card is playable. Basically, don't go overboard!


2) Contest Criteria: This determines how well you have adhered to the contest criteria. For example, if you have been asked to support the FIRE attribute, you need to support them in a meaningful way, not just create a FIRE monster with a random effect tacked on.


3) Originality: Whilst you don't need to make a card something nobody has ever been seen before, it shows some nice creative thinking when you can create a set of cards that aren't simply bland generic effects pasted onto cards (The generic searcher, the graveyard reviver, the one that mills etc... Basically, what Tellars where as an archetype)

I think I have an idea for something that will fit the criteria. It's an archetype that focuses on banishing cards from the opponent's grave to get their effects. Would this be considered "new", since it isn't something that's been done yet?

No, they didn't. It was an existing mechanic that lacked a proper term. For example, Morphing Jar 2 used to say "pick up cards", then "reveal", then finally "excavate" when they had a proper term.

In this case, "banish" is already the proper term. The unique thing about my archetype is that it focuses on banishing the opponent's grave, which is something an archetype has not done yet. As it stands, however, "banishing" is not a new mechanic in itself, hence why I'm asking if it counts.

Should have really put this in the OP but I'd love it if you explained what the new mechanic is, for example what exactly are white and black overlays and if you lose the card that has yourself as an overlay doyou lose the duel (or your soul for that matter)

Typed these up in 3 hours, 4 to fix everything now. That's a lot of dreaming in my head...
They're the signature cards of some of my head-canon.
Numbers look into the Soul of the person who picks them up, and ask, "What do you Wish for?" So what happens when you know what you're doing. You get these, an extension of One's Soul. You can only keep one in your deck, barring 99 which requires you to run a single type deck. Though this one isn't so much that, given anime. They can be summoned without using material, is what it means, or a single material. I do wonder if you can figure out which of the characters these cards are attached to though?

You can Xyz Summon this card by using the above monsters as materials(Overlay units attached to those monsters are sent to the Graveyard)
When this card is Xyz Summoned, attach all cards in the Graveyard with "39" or "96" in their name to this card as Overlay Units. This card gains ATK & DEF is equal to the total number of "Number" Monsters attached to it x500.
This card gains the effects of all cards with "39" and "96" in their name attached to this card.

My actual contribution, Extend Xyz Summon, not original since it does exist in Fanfics. Also, Ignore the center, just wanted a good picture.

Except the former is just a renaming of a mechanic that exists, but hasn't been done (specifying what material you have to detach).  I don't know what the latter is, but it certainly isn't a mechanic since the player is not a card.

Edit:  "Extend" isn't new, either, since that's how Utopic Future is summoned.

That's more of an anime visual, like how Barian Rank-Up's have those Crystals.
A Black Unit is an Xyz Material Currently being used as an Overlay Unit.
A White Unit is an Ordinary Overlay Unit.
Different costs basically, if you attached a Light Link Monster it would/could be a Blue Unit.

Extend is my contribution for this one though. And 88 can use Xyz materials. Also on Rank Cost.
Rank Cost: The Total Levels/ranks used to summon a card.
Heraldry Crest uses 3 level 4 = Rank-Cost of 12
So 88 could have a Max Rank-Cost of 16, or a Minimum Rank-Cost of 6.
Of course, these things all took place in my head anyway. So that effect is an addition, since 88 can prevent Heraldry Crest from hitting the field, as can it prevent 88 with it's constant negation and Stealing of effects.

The point is to make balanced cards. Also, banishing (despite being from the Extra Deck) is not a new mechanic, so I doubt Username will allow this submission.

This card can also be Accelerated by using 4 Level 4 Monsters and(at least 2 must be Tuners) or including "The Emporer's Key" as a fifth material.-(88 gains 4000 ATK) This card's gains 1000 ATK/DEF equal to the number of monsters used in it's summoning.
This card Summonig cannot be negated. When your opponent activates a card, you can reduce this monsters ATK by exactly 500; negate that card's activation and it's effects until the End of the Duel, then return t to the hand. When this card attacks, cards and effects cannot be activated. Once per 3 turns, you can reduce this card's ATK by exactly 1000, End this turn, then proceed to the End Phase of the next turn; during the next turn you cannot normal summon and/or set monsters if you did so before this card's activation of this effect that turn. When this card battles, it can attack once more after Damage Calculation, if so, the monster it first battled is not destroyed. This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each.(cannot attack directly if it battled once before, unless that monster leaves the field)
This card effects cannot be negated. If this card would be destroyed, you can reduce it's ATK/DEF by exactly 1000 instead.

@TricMagic the rules say you can only have one submission, and at the current time I count three posts with possible submissions. Which one do you want to use, cause you can't use the xyz that overlay yourself, the utopia/dark mist mash-up, and the synchro xyz monsters (shut up, that's what I'm calling them) 

@Bladecharge, banishing from the extra is NOT new, both ghost blossom $ winter Cherrys and one of the true kings do. Plus, what I really care about for this contest isn't how OP the card is, but how creative the new thing you made is BUT ITS STLL A MAJOR FACTOR, if everyone else is making things that you think are OP that's OK but in the end it MY dissision that counts

And it's those since extend is apparently just a rename of an existing mechanic.

Introducing the next era, or rather, a bit of time travel.
Having succeeded in winning In Heartland's Finals, they travel to the Spirit World in the 5d's Era.
There they trap a portion of Ancient Fairy Dragon's(Pixie's) power. Using this Energy they Accelerate the Numbers, gaining new power along with a change of form.

The first two cards are later Accelerates, though the rest were used here.

"No, we will complete our mission, we've come this far. Tell the Pilot to get this heap of junk off this planet. Further, into Headship Space!"

Makes more sense if the first one didn't get lost in an internet crash.
