Instead of predicting and rolling 5 cards, instead roll 8. You do not take damage if the final 3 cards are predicted incorrectly. The previous critical effect of guessing all cards correctly only requires the first 5 cards to be guessed correctly, but would also triple the damage from any correctly guessed among the final 3.

Dream-Walking into a Fall.

After the last exchange of blows, you start to feel dizzy. Maybe you overdid it? You haven't been this close to death in quite some time, but for now, you're still standing.

You shut your eyes, aiming to rest them for just a moment, but several pass before you realise how terrible an idea this is. Shaking yourself awake, you are... not here. Wherever you were before, it is not there. There is a figure running towards you in the distance. 6 arms, all undergoing the same motion. It is almost entrancing and very much therapeutic.



Just as you're thinking you probably ought to actually open your eyes again, the figure reaches you. A high-pitched and unnaturally rhythmic voice follows the figure, though his breathing, if he breathes, does not register as a sound.
"Greetings! I don't believe we have met. Though I know so much about you, oh, I've heard so much about you. It is good that we might finally meet, for I owe you some gratitude. It was you who defended the dragon shrine, yes? It is of great importance that is restored. Great importance. That it is restored. Great. And I believe you are one of the few who might listen to me, so I shall need you to return to reality shortly. But first, tell me, tell me. Tell me- what is it that you should desire? Why? And what would you like to achieve?"

Ruka no Rua slowly opens his eyes, though still asleep, if lucid.
"hmm,_blink*, What I desire, that is,_...,Hmmm... Perhaps some info of when I am, For I do not recall falling asleep... Hua, also, It was no Issue, for that madman.... I am more than willing to listen to one who would recognize the Blue-Eyes White Dragon."

"Oh, a sense of place. That is a welcome first question. Now you are here, and you are here now. Here IS now, so to speak. This world is a moment, not a place. The world you came here from, however, is very much very much real, and very much a world, but it is not yours. The shrine was the key to it all. No, that is wrong. The shrine was the lock to it all. Breaking the shrine broke the barrier. Things slipped through. Things slipped through. Now it is all wrong. There are things on both sides.

The madman you speak of is danger. Well noted. Danger. And I fail to see what I would recognize the Blue-Eyes White Dragon as. I know he is real, and I know the shrine must be restored. Greater powers than ever should be allowed of your kind have been unlocked. Deals such as these I make in hope to counteract the darker deals, the dark dark deals that may too, even now, in this one moment of infinite, be being made.

Now, tell me, tell me again- what do you desire? Why? And what shall you do with it?"

_blink*,"Well, that woke me. You're a strange one, but I see your point, even if you do not recognize the question itself. As for what I desire... My friends, we share a bond. MS, He is connected to me by this shield on my back. Blue-eyes, This claw is proof of My & His Acknowledgement of each other, and ourselves in a way... When, this is after our Second Battle, I remember. What I do with this power, I live my Life, For myself and those around me. If there's one thing I learned from Tristain Academia, it's that."

"Would you perhaps mind if I took a closer look at these... tokens of your friends? No need to take them off your person, of course."
The merchant turns his head sideways and awaits a response.

Ruka no Rua smiles and says, "Of course I don't, after all, Our bonds are not only physical. Keep in mind that destroying them, I will unleash Azure...As Rua's Eyes Glow Blue, within this place where no colors should be stable.

There's a quick snapping of fingers.
"Put that down!"
Rua's eyes turn back to their normal colour.
"You shouldn't point a gaze at someone unless you intend to kill them. Wait, no, was that guns? I think it was gazes.

The merchant immediately disregards any level of personal space and begins to inspect the items of interest very closely.
"Hmm. Hmmmmmm. Interesting. Hmmm. Very nice. Hmmm."
He pauses and stands up, moving back a little.
"Yes, I know just the thing."

He walks a couple of metres away and drops his sack, blocking vision of it with his body.
"Try not to look."
After a short while. he reaches into the sack with all of his arms and pulls out... a Millennium Shield? You're not sure how this fit into the sack or how it came out. Or how the figure in front of you is carrying it.

"This one's better. Your old one is too small."

He brings the shield up his arms' length above him, and throws it at you. In the moment of ensuing panic, it doesn't seem to hit you, and instead you feel nothing even though you're certain it was on a collision course with you. The weight on your back is slightly increased.

(Millennial Shield now blocks 300 incoming damage rather than 100.)

Moving my arms I sling it on. I can feel that the magic's of this shield have become even stronger. "Hm, sorry but I am rather protective of them. This is, nice. Thank you."

"I thought you'd like it! It is better. Noticeably better. I wouldn't believe you hadn't already done it if it wasn't clear you hadn't and also that you lack the capability to do so. Now, let me just grab something else."

This time, the merchant takes a little longer to rummage through the sack, and you hear a few slightly concerning roars. After a few minutes in an instant that seem to stretch on for hours, he slowly starts to pull out a giant white dragon. As the head comes stretches past the figure of the merchant, you see that it has blue eyes.

"I figured I'd do a similar thing with the claw too. It makes sense. You must understand. You understand."
He finishes pulling the Blue-Eyes White Dragon out of the sack. It does not seem very impressed.
"Ah, but you see, I need to fetch another one, so give me a little while. This one was near the top of the bag. I'll just leave this one here. Don't go anywhere. Back in a few!"
The merchant dives into the bag. Blue-Eyes White Dragon roars softly, attempting conversation.

..."well, guess Multiversal theory holds true." Focusing, I extend my soul's wavelengths to attempt Feeling of the Heart.

After a short while, there is a plonk and a roar. The roar is explained by the dragon presently being cradled by the ever perplexing magical merchant. The plonk could possibly have been the sound of him hitting the ground, because you are fairly sure he fell from the air, but with that said "plonk" is not a normal sound for feet hitting the ground.

"Got one!"
The merchant stacks this new Blue-Eyes White Dragon directly on top of the other one. The first looks even less impressed than it was after being taken out of the bag.
"Right, if you'd just lay your claw over here, we should be good to go! Again, this one's on me. I do owe you for the shrine thing, even if you didn't quite manage to protect it."
The top dragon lets out an inquisitive roar and turns its head to the merchant.
"Yes." he replies, before shaking his head.

"Any time now?" He gestures.

I step up to them. Bowing my head and looking up I ask, "Is this okay." "Rrrmm." I place the Claw in between us.

exe.Feeling Of The Heart

The eyes of the merchant light up, and you're not sure of whether this is an expression or if they're literally lighting up due to metaphorical ambiguity.

He clicks the fingers of each of his hands in succession, finishing on a 7th click of all of them at once. The world around turns white, for a moment, then returns to yellow. There are two less dragons, and two more claws attached to the first.

(The claw now does 450 damage)

"Again, better, right? Now, I do believe you have something to ask me about? I can tell. I can always tell."

"About this fight I find myself in, I wonder if I may have some help with another of my items." Ruka takes off the Hat he's wearing. "I received this after many battles, I wondered if you knew anything about the one who gave such a thrilling duel of magecraft. She seemed a master of water magics."

"Oh, you mean her. Yeah. That wasn't her. You fought a reflection, an image. A caricature. A cartoon. Not real. Nice hat though. Very nice hat. Not the best hat. I could get you a better hat."

It's not certain- nothing is certain here- but there is perhaps a degree of discomfort to the merchant upon his investigation of this object.

"She calls herself 'Dark Magician Girl'. So very generic. So very, very generic. A descriptor, a profession, a gender? Who should choose such a name? Not I, for sure. I guess I could point you in the right direction. For a price. I feel as though I have fulfilled any outstanding obligations that might have once been."

"This Fight I find myself in," Rua's eyes appear to have kindled a flame of passion, "I cannot win it as of now. Perhaps... If you could heal me of my wounds I believe I can Finish it. If I do, Will you point me on my way. If not," and here Rua tilts his head, " this Is something you want, a memento for me, But of the chance to meet her..."

"Oh, so you think if you were healed you could finish this fight? Am I supposed to disagree?

I could go for a little counter-proposal. I'm not much of a healer, personally. Time, on the other hand, I'm a big fan of. Time, I can appreciate. So, if I dial back the time a little, get you back on your feet, you can fight the whole battle again. See how it turns out.

And, between you and me, I can have a little bit of an effect on outcomes, too. If you'd rather, you could fight a different angry horde of 25 monsters. But I'd rather it was 25. I'm of the opinion that when you bite off more than you can chew, it's still considered polite to swallow.

So if you want to place a little wager of the hat on that, then sure. I'm more than happy to. Unless you have any better ideas? I like to have a good chance of winning these things myself too, you know. I like me. I barely know you."

"Ha, I like you though. Hmm, Very well, but first, the rules. I get to keep these within that world, as well as my current spell^(x7), as well as after the battle. In return, If I lose, you get this Magical Hat. If I win though, I would like to be pointed to her within my world. After all, there's no point in an one-off encounter. So, Yea or Nay, I will face them once more, just the 25 mind you."

"I accept your terms. Although, they're mostly my terms."

The merchant offers all 3 of his right hands to shake.

Hmm... Focusing my thoughts, I transform my transformed claw into a more graceful form, and shake on it, "Very well, By these terms."

"Let's get to it then! First, I shall uphold my end of the bargain. You shall see me again if you succeed. Otherwise, I'll just take the hat when I please."

He clicks all of his fingers three times, but you only hear it twice.

You're back where you started, and brimming with health. Your items are still upgraded. There are no monsters here yet. You are faced with the decision of going the way you did the first time (Keep the same set of monsters) or going down a different path (Roll a new set of monsters).
