Playing again and need some advice!

First topic message reminder :

Hey all! long time no see

Long story short I've started playing another TCG competitively IRL and while at a event there was a YGO event going on next to me and it peaked my interest and my friend has convinced me to start playing again. The only problem being I haven't played in a longgggg time and am very out of sync with the game.

So if anyone can give me a run down of the recent meta that would be great! also as playing competitive TCG is expensive (let alone two!) is there any budget deck around which could compete?

Nutellaknights died when I was still playing sadly, loved playing with them.

I'm just going to wing it with a few Kaiba decks lol.

Next question tho, What are the current staples?

E Drag Nigs.

Maxx "C", Twin Twister, Vanity, Solemn Cards, Ghost and White Rabbit, Storming Mirror Force and Floodgate Trap Hole.

This is the first time I really see a dead archtype. Being useless in current meta is not considered dead for me. Being dead is when KONAMI decided to ban all 4 big E Drags Nigs lol leaving small ones unba but 4 smalls one can only be played with those big nigs.

I'll look at youtube if there's E Drag Nigs 2016 deck profile lol.

ABC is not cheap. Since you have to buy the non-Structure Deck cards anyway.

Furthermore TCG is worst than OCG, people here Main Deck the Winter Cherries because why not, feat Chaos Hunter So.

M E R M A I L S! Tho post INOV, you'll prolly need a Tretoad/Toadally Awesome which won't be cheap, but you can survive without it. Deck is still good and doesn't care about a lot of what the Meta can do (including not giving a damn about Dimensional Barrier). Plus, it specialises in breaking yo' board and OTK'ng you.

Yeah but for mermailss to be able to compete on the level of the meta they DO need Totally Awesome...

So, you DO agree that this is a going 1st meta then? Because what Mermails thrive on; always have, is going 2nd. You don't need your extra deck to OTK the living daylights outta your opponent with the deck (Neptabyss + any water in hand = OTK) and deck makes a decent living without Toadally, but it definitely helps. Where Toadally comes in, is giving the deck a reliable; capable play when it does go 1st (outside of the Moulinglacia 'hand loop' play) and synergising with Bahamut. Yes, the card adds another dimension to the deck, but if you're playing at a local/regional level and on a budget, you can still do decently without it.

Mermails have topped consistenly, but they can steal some games by otk, yes they are really weak to cards like dweller with the only out being chalice, but in a 1st turn meta, where your opponents make you go second for free otks its strong, just like floofalls

Oh, Mermails are a top 5 deck this format imo. Deck loves to go 2nd, and as I explained: now has capable plays going 1st thanks to Toadally awesome.

This is a GOING FIRST meta, not a going 2nd meta. Also, please read what I said: Toadally awesome is a great card, BUT, if you are on a budget and competing at locals/regionals, you can survive without it (which, you can). Obviously, if you can afford the card, you run it. Not once did I deny that. Once again: Most of the time you enter your extra with Mermails, is when you have been forced or you elect to go 1st; Toadally gives you that defensive play to help be a protective/negation card when you do go first. Pretty sure I have already explained Toadally's usage in Merms. Of course, you do enter the extra occasionally when going 2nd and Toadally is also an option then (so long as they haven't called 'XYZ' with Dimensional Barrier, tho I dunno how much play that will see at this point in time). But if you were going to a YCS, then yes, I would run Toadally, but I'm assuming Roach is thinking more locals/regionals.

I don't think I ever argued with you on any term tbh...

All I said is that the card is something that makes the deck go one step higher in every regard. Considering Regionals will be full of ABC and Blue-eyes players...dunno just saying it will be hard lol...

Anyways, enough of this really.

Also it does give the deck a better defence, since if your opponent is able to get trough your OTK there is a big time you will eventually lose.
