Hello folks.

I've prepared a series of questions for you to answer. I hope you answer all of the questions sincerely. If you're not sure whether your answer is correct or not then you can choose to leave the question unanswered, just don't give us wrong answers that you're mostly sure are incorrect.

The purpose of this survey is to gather information to improve your experience in DA. It's no secret that our community is a small one, and mainly focused towards a minority of individuals whom seek specific goals, such as tournaments and a variety of events: mainly those who seek fun within competition instead of strict competition - like what you'd experience in larger communities similar to DNF and DGZ.

We'd like to know how you view our progress and plans in DA thus far, and what you think of DA overall.

I don't use it personally but I can see it being very helpful for new members

Too many imo

Q1: How would you describe DA Staff members?
A1: Honestly, it differs for each staff. It is undeniable that some are better than others, because everyone is different. We are not exactly to the point that "one fills up things the others lack", but overall, I will say DA and it's staff members are operating fine currently. (maybe can work faster by sometimes idk)

Q2: What is the first thing you check when you log-in to DA?
A2: First notifications, then Chatbox archive, next Chatbox. Well, you only asked first so "Notifications". Why? Because it informs me what did I missed, yep.

Q3: What are you mostly interested about in DA?
A3: ......Don't hit me by saying this but it was spam rooms to be honest. Spam rooms were actually more lively than the chatbox. I get to talk with some people about random funny stuff, it was quite interesting. Unfortunately, now with the spam rooms gone, I guess I am most interested with the Chatbox, I like to talk and communicate with people even irl that's why. 

Q4: How did you find out about DA?
A4: Quasar told me about it. Well, I am going to be honest here, @Quasar said he can not go on DN and chat, he asked me to either chat on DevPro or at DA. I thought DevPro needs installation, I am lazy so I registered on DA instead and yeah, I chatted with him on here, my first intention joining here was not to join this place, lol. (Well, now he gone inactive on here, but it's ok.)

Q5: What made you decide to stick with us?
A5: ......Again, it was the spam rooms really, I feel this community is fun with people that are not strict all the time. You can look at my intro, then you can tell that I actually enjoyed talking/spamming there. However, BAs with people is another major factor too.

Q6: Have you been harassed by a Staff member before? If yes, who was it?
A6: Nope. If sexual harassment counts, I say HoMoS but this is a serious survey so nope. ummm, does random bans count as harassment?

Q7: What do you think of Secret Dungeon event?
A7: It does have a good gimmick in it. If you want to know why people stopped advancing, it's just because school started at this time period. It's not an "Dragon head; tiger tail" event, meaning it started good but ended plain.

Q8: What do you think of our Tournaments Schedule and our Tournaments Stack system?
A8: Schedule is fine, Stacks are harder than Elo but it's fine also. The main problem with tournaments are that some participants just vanish after signing up. I understand this is not DA's problem but theirs, but I am just pointing out the major problem in tournaments.

Q9: Do you use the Full-screen Chatbox?
A9: Yes, but I also use the small one in the corner. I used the one in the corner in the beginning though. Now I just switch between the two.

Q10: Do you find communicating with others in DA and making new friends hard to do?
A10: Not at all, but again, it requires Chatbox to be active, especially now with spam rooms closed.

Q11: Do you think our items in the Central Shop are over-priced?
A11: Eh, to be honest, price is not the issue here. I personally didn't buy any stuff in it yet is because of.......well, I shouldn't say it this directly but... it's because most items there doesn't have any REAL effects of me.... but that's just me, since I do noticed others found it useful, so...

Q12: How long are you planning on staying in DA? And if you're leaving soon, what are the reasons?
A12: I am planning to stay on here until I forget this place. When? Ask god. Reason? well, if I forget something, I can't really go on it huh...

Q13: What makes you like a forum? generally speaking.
A13: People's communication. Peaceful and interesting conversations and events are the way that drags my attention.

Q14: Are you part of any other academies?
A14: Nope, I didn't even know it was a thing before the story about Quasar that I told you. I don't plan on going to others either, on an addition note.

Q15: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much would you give to DA's Theme/Skin?
A15: Dark and orange are visually appealing, orange shines in dark, same reason why Halloween uses those. I personally give it a 8, the 2 point missing? Well, that's just me being picky and critic.

Q16: Is our Portal useful for you? OR do you ever check the options/links in the portal? If yes, when was the last time you used it?
A16: ._. Portal? What is that? Is that a food? Me★Vector Eh, never actually uses it, last time I used it is like when I joined DA.

Q17: What do you think of our staff as a whole, do we have too many staffers? or do we need more staffers?
A17: Well I cannot leak the number here of the current staff members but I will say the number is fine. The number is not the problem here, it's the activeness to be honest. I know I am being too honest here, but please don't forget that it is actually quite important to have active staffs. I mean, there are staff members that I haven't even see even once on DA since I joined ._. (Which is June 05, 2015)

Q18: Do you think our Tournaments are dull and not creative enough?
A18: You are asking this because we rarely reach 16+ participants, I assume? No, the idea themselves are fine, unique and interesting actually. There are some that drags people's eye more, that's true. However, overall they are all pretty good, the major issues is just some people don't like to keep up with the tournaments.

Q19: How many hours do you spend browsing DA on daily bases?
A19: If you only count on screen time, I would say 5 hours? Nowdays I usually work while putting DA on in front of me and even when I go AFK or go out for a short time I put it on, so if you count that too it will be probably 12-13 hours....?

Q20: Would you like to see DA adapting other games on a serious level? games such as Hearthstone, Magic the Gathering, or Pokemon for example.
A20: Please don't. This is like the major thing I don't like on here. I mean, sure people can have their interests, but please don't forget that this is a Yu-Gi-Oh-! Community. Other games are basically off-topic in here, if they are discussed a bit it's fine, but it gets annoying when people talk about it all day long instead of YGO.

Q21: Aside from dueling, what else do you do in DA when you're bored?
A21: Chat, and read topics. Oh and of course, make my daily lessons. Maybe spread some MADs.

A22: I never was, never is, and never will be interested in live streams, so you get the greatest "NO" from me for answer.

Q23: Which of these do you use more often: 1) Dueling Network, 2) YGO Pro.
A23: Dueling Network. Mainly because I am too lazy to download the latter. (and it doesn't work on my PC ._.)

Q24: Do you like our Ranking-up system?
A24: Umm, I like it. This is unrelated but, I think the ranking up system is actually quite easy on here......However, some people claiming it difficult to raise up other dorms.....so I think you will get different views on this matter.

Q25: Is there something you don't like in/about DA?
A25: Majorly no. Only one thing, when people talking about other games on here for long. I am not going to go specific, but you get the idea. (and maybe sometimes the fact that some ideas can get pushed back for half a year......)

Q26: How would you recommend improving DA as a whole from your own perspective?
A26: Ummm, in my opinion right? We need to get new users to decide to stay on here, honestly, since old members knows this place already. We need to catch every new member's sight when they joined. There are no such a thing as keeping too much new members, so. If you ask how, that will be long so I will just leave it like this here.

Q27: What are your thoughts on our Duel Points distribution?
A27: Well, many new people complain they don't get a lot of DPs, but in my opinion, it's more like they don't know HOW to earn more. I think we need to catch their attention to tournaments, lottery, and SAs since those are rarely mentioned on DA, they don't even know about it before they were told.

It's a nice idea, but I doubted from the start that it would be successful, maybe when school get's out it'll liven up a bit.

Tournament Schedules are fine. I personally think the Tournament Stack system is kinda useless, since the Duel Circuit exist.

The tournament schedule is fine but the tournament stack system needs to be changed imo to 1 stack for Ra and 2 for Obe.

I only used in when I was a new member, I think its very helpfull for new members not that practical for the older ones.

I don't think we have too many staffers because each rank has about 3-5 members which is a good number, but we do have a lot of ranks for the staffers.

Nope not at all, it's accually the opposite, ppl accually complain that there is no regular meta-allowed tournament often.

Yes besides what I said in the tournament Question, I think the system is very creative and good, maybe not that challenging but its good.

The Central shop needs more attention, We need more purchasable items.

The answer for Q26 answers this aswell, the DP is useless after collecting a certain amount.

I haven't been back long enough to form any proper opinions yet. But from what I've seen, the staffers seem like they are quite capable of handling their duties.
Q2: What is the first thing you check when you log-in to DA?
I check the most recent topics. Typically I look for ones that I've posted in to see if there have been any replies.
Q3: What are you mostly interested about in DA?
I'm interested in having the opportunity to learn and grow as a duelist, and meet new people.

I found out about DA from an IRL friend back in 2012.

I enjoyed using the website, and I met a lot of cool people.

In a way. I've been sort of pestered/harassed by staff in the past, but it was more of an annoyance than anything. I don't recall who it was though. I know they aren't staff any more though.

I think it's a pretty cool idea. It appears to be doing well to some degree, as opposed to events in the past where members had to duel staff (which led to staffers being more or less harassed for duels @~@)

I think it works well for its intended purpose. Plus I like the concept.

Usually, but the fact that it shows Hidden Content for PMs is rather annoying.

Not really. Although it would be easier if more people were active during the weekdays.

Not really. To be honest I wish there were more things to choose from, since people like me have a stupid amount of DP and nothing to spend it on.

I'm planning to stay as long as I can.

An active community, and plenty of things to take part in.

I never look at the portal. When I go to the website, the url I use goes straight to the forum.

I'm not sure. Again, I haven't been back long enough to form an opinion.

I think they're fine, although there are definitely a lot of cool ideas that could be implemented.

I'm not sure. I mean, the idea of the website is to deal with yugioh, so the addition of another game on a large scale would seem... odd. But if done properly, it could work.

Exodia lottery, and sometimes I browse a few threads. That's about it.

It depends on what is streamed. Maybe, maybe not.

I haven't really started dueling again on DA yet, but when I did in the past, I exclusively used DN. Nowadays, I use both. DN is definitely easier for me, but I like YGOPro because there's no chance of ruling issues and whatnot.
Q24: Do you like our Ranking-up system?
I do like it. I still kind of wish the testing system was a thing, but maybe in a different way. More skill based, rather than knowledge based. For example, maybe you describe a situation in a duel and the person being tested would have to answer how they would respond to it, given certain cards. And then they would be rated off of their answer.

The atmosphere doesn't feel nearly as welcoming as it used to.
Q26: How would you recommend improving DA as a whole from your own perspective.
Encourage productive activity. Not just by spam posts through forum games. But real, constructive activity. Find new avenues of advertising. In addition, find new ways of getting people to be active in tournaments. Seeing people getting wins due to inactive opponents or just being given the win shouldn't happen. Everybody should be actively wanting to participate.
Q27: What are your thoughts on our Duel Points distribution?
Lots of DP, not enough things to spend it on. I actually have an idea as to a sort of alternate battle arena, which I would gladly detail if desired. It would definitely encourage dueling and spending DP if done right.

They're fine, I dont really look at them other then friends (Most of them atleast)

I just like that theres people to talk to and like getting feed back on different things from like custom cards to deck ideas.

Just that I will almost always have someone to talk with on here.

Well both yes and no, you should've defined this question alitle better.

Seems fine, but I'm not particarly that much for using decks that I havnt made.

I really didn't like how people were all getting inside obelisk blue just by being top 8 in the league(circuit).The stack system is better but I think that there should be some kind of a challenge right before you enter a new dorm like a Dorm Master who you have to defeat with a certain deck or something.

When you enter the chat it feels as if almost everyone that is active is a staffer.Most staffers are trying hard to give the community some fresh material so that is good.The whole chat mod ranks are kinda useless.

Not really.If we had more active members more interesting ideas could have been successful but with our current roster we cannot do stuff like huge swiss live tournaments or team battles.

The ranking system is fine but members should be able to pick the option not to rank up.More titles or achievement bars should be added so that duelists could strife to get those instead of dorm upgrades.

Absorb lesser academies or connect with them form inter-academy activities.If we had more people everything would be awesome.Other way to get more people is to promote DA somewhere (the twitch idea might do that).

As I said there is nothing really valuable to get for the DP.Decks and songs are cheap,everyone has a custom tag so custom tags are not as cool as they used to be and they are too easy to get..

In a general summary of the group as a whole? Okay I suppose. You have some good, loyal minions that do their jobs well and act professionally but on the opposite side of the spectrum there are some people that objectively speaking, genuinely puzzle me as to their status in staff. So essentially take the good and the bad you you have something that's 'just okay' In saying that.. It still manages to do the essential functions well enough.

Q2: What is the first thing you check when you log-in to DA?

My notifications / PM Inbox, those (more often that not) alert me to urgent matters that require my immediate attention.

Q3: What are you mostly interested about in DA?

Exchanging ideas, gathering perspectives from folks with different experiences and interests.

Q4: How did you find out about DA?

I only discovered online play about a year ago I wanted a nice, small community to help me get reacquainted with things after a 7 year hiatus and Google-sempai showed me the way.

Q5: What made you decide to stick with us?

The people, a forum is only as good as the people make it. Which is where I feel other communities fall short.

Q6: Have you been harassed by a Staff member before? If yes, who was it?

No, at least not that I can recall. If I had any problems with any members of staff on a personal level, it'd be known already.

I like it, I think it's a refreshing spin on the whole 'rental deck' concept.

I think that the schedule is organised quite well. (but I may be slightly biased in saying that) and the Tournament stack system remedied the issue of members breezing into Obe with a single event top so I'd say it's good for the most part.

Q9: Do you use the Full-screen Chatbox?

Yes, It's more effective for me to use that to see the chat there due to the bigger scope that full screen gives you and the fact that what I would consider essential commands don't seem to work as expected in the small one.

However the smallbox does have chatbox PM which I find very useful (actually I'm not sure I could really cope without it now..), So my usage is more due to technical limitations than actual preference.

The avenues of communication here are fine. I do find making new friends a hard thing to do, but that's due to my shy/reserved nature.

Not really, except perhaps the Rename Item.

I plan on staying around for the foreseeable future. Is that going to be a problem?

Funnily enough I didn't realize there were others untill the topic of Alliances and Wars recently cropped up. No, I don't intend on joining any others either.

Too dark for my taste aesthetically speaking, the layout and other style elements are very nicely done though.

Not particularly, it would be rather useful for someone who is new. But for folks that already know their way round the site don't really have a practical need for it.

I feel like there are too many, but I have a bias towards smaller groups besides, we'd be permanently understaffed if everyone had to constantly measure up to my impossibly high standards.

I think that balance is key, too many 'vanilla' events and you alienate the casual playerbase, too many fun challenges with custom rules and you might end up alienating the competitive playerbase. Both sides of the spectrum have their needs and both sides appeased.

At least 2 hours a day, sometimes more but that varies on a day by day basis.

I know many folks have varied interests in gaming, but I feel this would be a nightmare to organise and cause too many conflicts to do such things at a competitive level.

I am never bored, I always have things to do. But on the odd occasion I don't have anything (or I am simply procrastinating) I dwell in the chatbox.

Fresh faces, fresh ideas and some more inspiring ventures.. Also having some way of keeping people active during tournaments and events, although this seems like it's something there's little to no control over. They probably wouldn't be problems if there was a way to mitigate those.

I think it's fine, but I do believe another Practical use for DP would be beneficial.. Albeit I'm unsure what that could be a this point.
