Card of the Week #14: Felgrand The Divine Dragon Knight
Felgrand The Divine Dragon Knight is arguably the best Rank 8 Xyz monster, mostly due to its extremely useful effect. By detaching one of its Xyz Material, you can target one face up monster on the fiel., That monster's effects become negated for the rest of the turn, and it becomes unaffected by other card effects for the rest of the turn as well. Most decks this format rely heavily on monster effects, so being able to negate effects with Felgrand each turn is very useful, and usually leaves your opponent in a tough spot.
However, negating your opponent's monster effects isn't the best thing about Felgrand. It's even better to target one of your own monsters with Felgrand. Negating the effect of one of your own monsters may not sound too appealing, but remember, Felgrand also makes its target unaffected by other card effects for the whole turn. This will make the monster targeted by Felgrand only able to be defeated by battle. You can even target Felgrand itself, protecting it from other card effects. Felgrand has a high ATK score of 2800, so it will not be easy to defeat in battle.
Some decks that can easily summon Felgrand are Mythic Rulers, Hieratic, Gimmick Puppets, and Photons. The most consistent of these that can make the most use out of Felgrand would be Mythic Rulers. Mythic Rulers can consistently summon Felgrand every turn, using Mythic Wood Dragon, and Mythic Water Dragon. They can summon it every turn easily, as Mythic Wood and Mythic Water Dragon can be searched by Redox and Tidal.
Mythic Rulers can also help protect Felgrand from being destroyed in battle by summoning Stardust Spark Dragon while Felgrand is out. Stardust Spark Dragon can use its effect to protect your Felgrand from being destroyed once a turn, while Felgrand can protect Spark Dragon every turn, which makes them great partners on the field together. Another great thing about Spark Dragon is that it's level 8, which means that once you have no more use in it, you can use it to summon another Felgrand.
