With the new banlist slowly inching closer to being effective as time passes, I figured I should give a heads-up on decks that may or may not have potential to be the top contenders. Some decks may die, some decks may rise. Let's go into analysis:
(1) Gouki - This deck is relatively untouched, and with the additions of cards from Flames of Destruction, this deck has some pretty intense combos. Locking down the opponent with insane board presence with just 2 or 3 cards, the archetype provides great difficulties for your opponent.
(2) Altergeist - A deck with a consistent disrupt combo; this archetype will cause your opponent to have to think about their next play very carefully, applying pressure that will surely cause your opponent to misplay. Especially with the addition of "Altergeist Multifaker" and "Altergeist Manifestation". (Btw, this deck doesn't need many spell cards).
(3) Pendulum Magicians - You thought the list hit them hard? This deck still has some magic to pull from their sleeves. Pendulum Magicians without "Astrograph Sorcerer" might be a bit more fragile, but this deck can still go strong. Even with their combo pieces getting progressively hit each banlist as it seems, they're still able to do things such as summoning "Invoked Mechaba".
(4) True Draco - The deck won't die just because "Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King" is gone. Using the max out of "Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior" and the newly released "Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter" to build up on a more floodgate orientated deck. Their consistency is still relatively the same, running more floodgates compensates for the lack of their boss monster of interruption.
(5) Trickstar - A deck revolving around burn and some control; this archetype becomes a nuisance to your opponent. Still unaffected by the banlist, "Trickstar Reincarnation" is a heavy hitting card, using it on your opponent when they search their key combo pieces and punish your opponent for searching in general with "Trickstar Lycoris" burn effect. The control from this deck is still something to be cautious of.
(6) Dinosaurs - Not the 60 card build with "That Grass Looks Greener" gone, but a 40 card build with "Lost World", playing Dino control allows for some good monster manipulation, allowing for them to pressure your opponent's frontline. "Ultimate Conductor Tyranno" and 1 of the 2 rank 4 Evolzar Xyzs is enough to make your opponent be scared after you've cleared their monsters.
(7) SPYRAL - Even with "Ancient Fairy Dragon" they still set-up pretty similar to Gouki, and just produce a lot of combos using the new Knightmare cards from Flames of Destruction. This deck will destroy 2 cards and sit on a negate that banishes. This deck will surely reign down some chaos on people.
(8 ) ABC - This deck has some cool combos with Knightmares as well, sitting on a boss monster that tags out into smaller combo pieces.
There are probably more, but for now those are what I think are going to be top contenders.
