Is it against the rules, or just against proper dueling etiquette for the opponent to look at the removed card? I'm just wondering, because knowing the rfg'd card can be a definite duel turner...

I have never heard that opponent could not look at the card, for example if it is used in real life, player should be able to check it (unlike D.D.Capsule) and it should is so in KCVDS too.

The grave and rfp areas are community property that can be viewed by either player whenever they desire. The only times I can think of when your opponent cannot view those areas is when the effect of "Question" is in play, or when a card is face-down, like for the effect of Different Dimension Capsule, your opponent cannot view that particular card even though it is in remove from play section.
