T'was a Fight Before Christmas
A very basic deck guide to Ice Barriers in the form of a Christmas Poem!
T'was a fight before Christmas, and all was amock.
The Ice Barrier was falling, caught up in a lock.
But maybe this season they will have the power
to fight against meta, not run off and cower.
Led on by their Generals, they push forth their might,
with the greatest of Strategists behind their plight.
So battle on they shall, despite being slow,
for maybe they're stronger, in this season of snow.
In a format like this, they're nowhere near the top,
but perhaps it's time to put meta down and stop.
For now is December, a time to be jolly,
and how to play Ice Barrier? It's time now to show thee.
The Strategist of Winter, he plans out the way
for the Ice Barrier's victory, in blue, white and grey.
He sends out the soldiers, to inevitable death,
but that drop of life is not their last dying breath.
This card is essential; it gives you a draw.
But the cost is balanced, and the purpose unsure.
It sends out a great warrior, to where nords call "Valhalla",
so prepare yourselves... for General Gantala.
The raw strength of Gantala, with uses so clear,
makes it all so evident he does not lead from the rear.
And despite being slow, and summoning so late,
he's got a brutal ATK stat, and the summon's worth the wait.
But why would you drop him, for a new random card?
Is there something unexplained, unspoken by the bard?
Why yes, I must say, but don't call me a liar.
I neglected to mention our all-seeing Prior!
He brings back the dead, at the cost of himself.
The noblest of deeds, but bad for his health.
And yet oh so strong, wifh Gantala in Grave,
as the game is changed by the magic of his stave.
His first effect, not the most commonly used,
as the main play for that is one Mr Gantetsu.
As Gachi is not such a gamechanging force,
Prior lets the generals take their course!
Gantala ranks higher, but don't let them slip.
For Grunard and Raiho take quite a firm grip.
Your opponent won't stand for the tax on their soldiers,
and the extra swarm power could make the wind colder.
So while these two leaders cannot match with the first,
they can still support you, and offer up some burst.
But despite their ATK stats being generally high,
they still have their weak points, to enemies quite sly.
For all soldiers just mentioned, could show one clear weakness,
as a lot of Spells or Traps may put the generals through stress.
But no problem occurs, as a figure in the snow
has revealed unto us that he is Dai-Sojo!
Now Dai-Sojo, the mighty monk, the one who blocks out tricks,
will not allow his allies to blend amongst the mix.
For when he sees a witch's spell, or a cunning fox's trap,
he shouts aloud to all who hear "OH WHAT IN HELL IS THAT?!"
And as he sees it coming, the men can all get down.
A mighty echo from his voice, a sharp and piercing sound.
And where men need protection, the Barrier can protect.
For your opponents cannot pass impenetrable defence!
Those hidden men, the snow sillhouttes,
they're weak head on, but who forgets?
They help to defend the ice and frost landscape,
and along with their friends they'll knock foes into poor shape.
So with these stealthy guards, and the great Dai-Sojo,
the only way forth, to pass through the snow,
would be to fight you head on, and your men would get hurt,
but some more snow allies will help push back the dirt.
Defender, the greater, the true guardian of peace,
your opponent won't break him, this wonderful beast,
as once in defense mode, his purpose is clear,
and noone may break past, and you can live without fear.
Cryomancer, he pushes, but not quite as far,
as defender outclasses him, leaves him below par.
But he can still try, and his usage not nill,
he can still be played, just don't expect a thrill.
To protect against evil, and continue the fight.
T'is one mightiest of goals, and one clothed all in light.
But some more Spell protection could not go unplaced,
so we welcome the Medium, with a great deal of haste!
The Medium just limits what your opponent can do,
and it still leaves them options, but the ice oh so blue,
it shines through the field, all throughout the land,
as Medium can Summon itself, straight out from the hand.
But as this christmas poem must come to an end,
I guess I should stop soon, for these points to rend,
There are more Ice Barrier monsters, but few worth mention,
so for the last few to go forth, may I have your attention?
The Dance Princess is an interesting case.
Perhaps she's more useful in a rush on a base?
As if it's not obvious, she goes for OTKs,
or last ditch front charges, through a Trap heavy maze.
And the last monster of mentiion, a power oh so great,
would once go unused, with his brothers' better states.
But now, siblings gone, he must inspire fear,
the lone ice dragon, the mighty Gungnir!
This Dragon, so strong, can destroy two targets.
While not the best dragon, he's untouched by banlist.
The ancient Brionac and the old Trishula,
were both condemned away, but not this great killer.
But the Ice Barrier's strength is more than just front line,
for the Spells of the arctic will all have their time.
The first of the 3 is a shining reward,
and this perfect medallion is never a fraud.
The Medallion searches what you will need most,
and can take any monster from this land of frost.
But since its use needs no more explanation,
I think I'll move on to a Spell with more stations.
The mirror decieves, it defies physics laws
for in a reflection, all that should change is course.
The mirror of frost, it gives double what's taken,
but after just one turn its effect goes off, broken.
Despite this, it's useful, but mainly as side,
for many are cards that would take you by surprise.
Against, say, a Caius, or a Black Luster Soldier,
you can slow down opponents by throwing back this boulder.
Now I know what you're thinking, "Why's it not a square?
or perhaps just a line could better this affair?"
But allow me to show why this shape has its power,
for 'tis why we unite in this Christmasy hour.
The tree, may I ask, what shape does it hold?
And the trinity in Christmas, the son, ghost and God?
The face of these things holds warmth and unity,
so despite all our differences we can all be happy.
Right now is a time which brings us all close,
and we can all gather, with fulfillment in most.
This season goes by, around friends and a feast,
so to you, for Christmas, I wish you good peace.
This was my Christmas gift to DA, in a sense. The Ice Barrier cards with christmas hats were curtosy of Heatnix, and of course the poem/guide thing was written by me. So, I guess all there is left to say is...
