If you net-deck a variety of decks, you know how they work, and why it works: Are you still a bad player?

No. Net-decking is a tool that people use to use decks that are better than anything they feel they can create. Whether it's true or not is irrelevant. What makes a good player is knowing how and why cards work, understanding game mechanics, being a technical and skilled player in all aspects (aside from deck building, which this is relevant to), and even arguably predicting the future metagame, investments, and so on. Net-decking in YGO is taboo, but if you look at any other card game these other communities don't care if you net-deck something because it doesn't give any insight of your ability as a player.

If you read my In-Depth Deckbuilding Guide, 1 of the steps to making a deck your own is to 1st steal someone else's build. It is entirely common and skips a whole bunch of the testing process. Nothing wrong with it at all. You simply won't reach your full potential, however, unless you tweak the build you steal to accomodate your own playstyle.

TL;DR :D

jk but why should it be? If you're in a need of a deck then why not find one?

Net decking is a great tool to test the decks you are interested in, and customize them to your liking.
Only suckish thing is seeing the same thing over and over again exactly to me. :I Without tweaking, I just wouldn't be able to call it someone's deck really.

It's a great tool to learn, but if you just netdeck and not change anything, and call yourself good... well.. I don't think that makes you a good player.

Netdecking isn't bad.

Unless you're just netdecking something you have no concept of how to use and are just playing it because it won a YCS.

But in that case you'd just be a bad player. Netdecking in itself is just copy-pasting strategies someone else threw together. Takes away from your deck-building skills, but if you can play it to it's fullest potential it's not that bad.
A good learning tool for beginners. I had my sister netdeck a few decks when she was just starting out.
Sure, she quit YGO a few days later, but it's whatever.

copying card for card? umm... i wouldnt say bad, but ull never be as good as the person who built the deck, just take ideas and make ur own stuff. haha.. problem solved! haha

Personally I prefer building my decks all by myself and once I have a recipe that I feel comfortable with, I have someone look at it and get this way different oppinions.

Imo, netdecking, which would mean copying an entire deck should only be done when you feel like you can't do it by yourself. :/ But that's just my point of view.

Not saying netdecking makes you bad, js that you might be lacking confidence or motivation to try and do it yourself.

What neko said.

I couldn't have described it better.

Net decking is just a way for me to discover more playing styles so if anything, I think it makes you a better player. And it's always nice to steal a deck.

I net deck simply to test out decks to see how they work, and then improve upon them or start from scratch if I like them.

If not I throw them out the window.

In all seriousness, just net decking in order to get good decks is bad, but if you're trying to understand their strategies, then it'll make you a good player.

Just my opinion though

I am not against net-decking I think it is usefull to become a good player but it won't alone make you a good player. You will still not know how to get the most out of the cards, like a player who built the deck himself and knows every single card's purpose in the deck.

i often netdeck wehn trying to learn a new archetype.

the process for me is netdek then tweak some then test then tweak more.

netdeking in general is not bad. netdeking then being bad and not reading or at least trying to understand ur netdek is bad.

tweaking netdeks is preferred
