its a Dog Chance. if you control a level 1 monster, it adds a level 1 mon to hand.

i believe you should add one day of peace so the damage on dog chance wont effect you :D

The point is to take damage to make the Hope for Escape's live. Also you can search out the Mystic Piper or Kinka Byo and play it on that turn so you don't even take damage anyway.
