(follow the duel by watching it on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ryxGy2B7WI)
Harbinger opened the duel by setting 4 cards and passing without summoning a monster. Yamisly opened up with Dark Eruption, Pot of Avarice, Blackwing – Sirocco the Dawn, Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame, Blackwing – Bora the Spear, and he drew into Gorz, Emissary of Darkness. He set Shura and ended his turn.
Harbinger summoned Beast King Barbaros and then paid 1000 LP to activate Skill Drain, giving Barbaros 3000 ATK. She attacked into Shura and destroyed it, then set a 5th card to his back row before ending her turn. Yamisly drew into Mirror Force and set it. He then set Bora and ended his turn. On her turn, Harbinger attacked into Mirror Force, which destroyed Barbaros, and then Harbinger passed without summoning another monster.
Yamisly drew Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North. Staring down 4 set cards and a Skill Drain, he played it safe by simply attacking with Bora for 1700 damage. In Main Phase 2, he summoned Blizzard and attempted to summon Blackwing Armed Wing, but it was destroyed by Harbinger’s Bottomless Trap Hole. Yamisly ended his turn with a clear field. On her turn, Harbinger summoned another Barbaros, which attacked for 3000 damage and allowed Yamisly to summon Gorz in attack mode. In her 2nd Main Phase, Harbinger set a 5th back row card and ended. Yamisly drew into another Dark Eruption, then activated it to get back Blizzard. He switched Gorz to defense position, set Blizzard, and ended.
Harbinger attacked and destroyed Gorz on her turn and ended. Yamisly drew Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind and set it before ending. Gorz destroyed Blizzard the Far North on Harbinger’s turn. Yamisly drew Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow on his turn. He tributed Gale to summon Sirocco and Harbinger allowed it. Sirocco attack Barbaros, and Yamisly discarded his Kalut in the Damage Step to destroy Barbaros and deal 400 damage, bringing Harbinger down to 4900 LP. In his Main Phase 2, Yamisly attempted to use Dark Eruption, but it was negated by Solemn Judgment (dropping Harbinger down to 2450 LP). Yamisly then activated Pot of Avarice, sending Kalut, Gale, Blizzard, Gorz, and Bora back to his deck and drawing into Book of Moon and Dimensional Prison. He set both cards before ending his turn with nothing left in his hand.
On her turn, Harbinger activated Dark Hole to destroy Sirocco, then set another card and ended. Yamisly drew and set Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his turn. Harbinger passed her next turn and Yamisly drew into Bora. He attempted to summon Bora but was shut down by a Solemn Warning that dropped Harbinger down to only 450 LP. On her next turn, Harbinger activated Pot of Duality, showing Torrential Tribute, Pot of Avarice, and Barbaros. She chose to keep the Barbaros and sent the others back to her deck. She attempted to summon Barbaros but it was destroyed by Yamisly’s Bottomless Trap Hole. On his turn, Yamisly drew Monster Reborn and used it to summon a Barbaros from Harbinger’s graveyard. Harbinger scooped and the 1st duel won goes to Yamisly!
After a small bit of siding it was time for Duel #2!
Harbinger chose to go 1st and started things off with a Pot of Duality, showing Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror, Monster Reborn, and T.G. Warwolf. She chose to keep Warwolf, and then summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and set 3 cards behind him. Yamisly was holding a hand of Dark Armed Dragon, Shura, Monster Reborn, Dark Illusion, and Dark Eruption. He drew into his own Thunder King Rai-Oh, then set Dark Illusion and Shura before ending his turn. Rai-Oh attacked and destroyed Shura, and Harbinger ended.
Yamisly drew into another Shura. He set it and ended. Harbinger summoned T.G. Rush Rhino. Rai-Oh took his 2nd Shura kill, and Rhino attacked for 2000 damage! Things were starting to go downhill for Yamisly. He drew into Book of Moon and set it. He activated Monster Reborn to summon a Shura, and then he normal summoned his own Rai-Oh, but Harbinger countered with Torrential Tribute and Yamisly ended his turn.
Harbinger summoned the Warwolf she had gotten from Pot of Duality on the 1st turn, and attacked for 1200 damage. She then set a 3rd back row card and ended. Yamisly drew into a useless copy of Dark Illusion and could do nothing but set it and end his turn. When Harbinger attempted to attack again with Warwolf on her next turn, Yamisly activated Book of Moon to flip it down. Harbinger set a 4th card to her back row and ended.
Yamisly drew a Pot of Avarice, but didn’t have enough monsters in the graveyard to use it. He set Dark Eruption and ended his turn. Harbinger flip summoned her Warwolf and attacked for another 1200 damage, dropping Yamisly down to 3600 LP, and then ended. Yamisly drew Bora on his next turn and summoned it. He attacked and destroyed Warwolf dealing 500 damage. During the End Phase, Harbinger did not use Warwolf’s effect to add another T.G. monster to her hand.
On her turn, Harbinger special summoned Cyber Dragon, and attacked and destroyed Bora dealing 400 damage. In Main Phase 2, she summoned a Rai-Oh and set a 5th card to her backrow before ending. Yamisly drew Icarus Attack, then attempted to summon Dark Armed Dragon from his hand, but Harbinger tributed Rai-Oh to negate it. Yamisly now had 5 monsters in his graveyard and sent all of them back with Pot of Avarice to draw Kalut and a Mystical Space Typhoon. MST took out a face-down Safe Zone, then Yamisly set Kalut and Icarus Attack. On her next turn when Harbinger attempted to attack the face-down Kalut with Cyber Dragon, Yamisly activated Icarus Attack, tributing Kalut to destroy Cyber Dragon and another face-down Safe Zone. In Main Phase 2, Harbinger set another backrow card before ending.
Yamisly drew Bora, then activated Dark Eruption to get back Kalut. He summoned Kalut and then special summoned Bora. He attempted to attack but was shut down by Mirror Force, leaving him with just 2 face-down Dark Illusions and nothing in-hand. Harbinger activated another Pot of Duality, showing Solemn Warning, Dimensional Prison, and Horn of the Phantom Beast. She decided to keep Solemn Warning, then set another backrow card and ended. Yamisly drew Dark Armed Dragon, but only had 2 DARK monsters in his graveyard so had to pass his turn. Harbinger passed her next turn and Yamisly drew Blizzard the Far North. He summoned Blizzard and used its effect to bring back Bora, then attempted to Synchro Summon Armed Wing, but was shut down by Solemn Warning (note that had he tried to summon Brionac, he would’ve had 3 DARK monsters in his graveyard and could have summoned Dark Armed Dragon). Yamisly passed.
Harbinger summoned Reborn Tengu on her turn and attacked for 1700 damage, dropping Yamisly down to 1500 LP, while she was still sitting at 5300 LP. She set a 4th card to her backrow and ended. Yamisly drew into Gale the Whirlwind and attempted to summon it but was shut down by another Solemn Warning. With that, Yamisly had no more monsters to play and nothing to stop Reborn Tengu from dealing enough damage next turn to take the win. Tengu attacked and the 2 players were headed for a tiebreaker duel!
After minimal siding, Yamisly chose to allow Harbinger to go 1st in duel #3. Harbinger opened with a Pot of Duality showing Dark Hole, T.G. Rush Rhino, and T.G. Striker. She chose to keep Dark Hole, then set a monster and a backrow to end her turn. Yamisly opened with a hand of: Mystical Space Typhoon, Blizzard the Far North, Smashing Ground, Dimensional Prison, and Kalut, and he drew his own copy of Dark Hole. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon and destroyed Harbinger’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon. He set Dimensional Prison, and then activated Dark Hole to destroy a face-down T.G. Warwolf . He then summoned Blizzard and attacked for 1300 damage. In the End Phase, Harbinger used Warwolf’s effect to add T.G. Striker to her hand. On her turn, Harbinger special summoned Cyber Dragon and attacked into Dimensional Prison (*note: saving Prison for a T.G. monster and using Kalut to get rid of Cyber Dragon may have been a better play for Yamisly). In Main Phase 2, she summoned T.G. Rush Rhino and set a card to her backrow.
Yamisly drew into Gorz. He activated Smashing Ground to get rid of Rhino, but Harbinger chained Safe Zone to protect it. Yamisly attacked with Blizzard and discarded Kalut to deal 900 damage (*note: this was probably a waste of a good Kalut in an attempt to make an eventual Gorz play. It may have been better to summon Kalut and then Synchro Summon with it, or just save Kalut for the opponent’s next turn since Rhino could no longer be destroyed by battle). Yamisly ended and Harbinger activated Monster Reborn on her turn to get back a Warwolf. Rhino attacked and destroyed Blizzard dealing 700 damage, and then Warwolf attacked for an additional 1200 damage, and Yamisly summoned Gorz with a 1200/1200 token. In Main Phase 2, Harbinger cleared the field with Dark Hole, and in the End Phase activated Warwolf’s and Rhino’s effects to add a Rhino and Warwolf to her hand from the deck. The duel stood at 5600 to 6100 in Yamisly’s favor, with a cleared field, but Harbinger had 4 cards in-hand to Yamisly’s 0. Yamisly drew into a worthless Pot of Avarice since he had only 3 monsters in his graveyard and had to pass his turn, doing nothing but setting Pot of Avarice.
Harbinger summoned another Rhino and it attacked for 2000 damage. She then set a backrow card and ended. Yamisly drew Neo-Spacian Grand Mole and set it, hoping to load the grave with another monster for Pot of Avarice. On her turn, Harbinger summoned another Warwolf and attacked the set Mole with Rhino, destroying it, then she attacked with Warwolf for 1200 damage, dropping Yamisly to 2900 LP. Yamisly needed to top deck a real winner here, but instead he came up with Dark Illusion. He set it, but was not able to do anything about attacks from Warwolf and Rhino on the next turn, giving Harbinger the win!
Harbinger is the winner of our 1st Featured Match! Congratulations Harbinger, and thank you Yamisly for submitting the match!
