HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO

-YUGIOH CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES-
-DUEL ACADEMY-
-SEASON 3-

I'll be your host for this event and what an event it is going to be! Now, to introduce my co-host - Chuck Norris!!

(what do you mean he's not here? He's coming right? No? Well that's just great. Really? He said I only live because he allows it? Ah, to heck with Chuck Norris)

I regret to inform you that Chuck Norris will not be making an appearance as he is too busy being Chuck Norris and cannot spare time for people who are not Chuck Norris. So, I guess you'll just have to stick with me - the king of cats.

Well, let's get right down to it then! Here's what you need to know!


-=THE RULES=-


1. The March 2012 ban list is in effect. All decks are allowed. Only 1 deck allowed per person. No anime-only or OCG-only cards allowed. The official ban list can be viewed here:

2. No posting in this thread. This thread is for official posts only. Registration, questions, and match reporting will all be done in a seperate thread here:

3. Duel Academy rules apply at all times. Be certain to check up on tournament rules here:
http://www.duelacademy.net/t1613-tournament-rules

4. Being inactive for 2 rounds will, among other penalties, result in a disqualification from the tournament regardless of your current record. Each round will last 1 week, which means at the very least you will have a Saturday and a Sunday with which to find your opponent online if you cannot find them or they are unable to duel during the weekday.

5. As per actual YCS rules, causing a match to end in a draw on purpose will result in a disqualification.

6. If you have questions about the tournament or card rulings, you can post in the thread mentioned in rule #2, PM me or a staff member, or PM The_Dutch_Prince or Exiled108 through Dueling Network.

7. All matches will be played using Dueling Network. If you are unfamiliar with it, the site is available here:

8. If you suspect your opponent is cheating by using a different deck or an infinite side deck, PM me. I am not competing as the host, and will be the only person who can view all players' decks (until the Top 16).

9. If you are active and your opponent is not, you'll receive a forfeit win. To get this, you must show me that you've PM'd your opponent and at least attempted to make contact. If you are both inactive it's a double forfeit. If you're both active but unable to meet up, you'll both take a loss, but will receive no punishment.


-=THE FORMAT=-


Yugioh Championship Series is split into 2 parts:

1st: 8 Rounds of Swiss System. During each round you will be paired with someone who has the same number of total matches won as yourself (+ or - 1 match, but this will happen a minimal number of times). Aside from that, matches will be determined in a random manner.

2nd: After the 8 Swiss Rounds, the 16 duelists with the top records will advance to a single elimination tournament. At this time, the decks of these 16 duelists will become public knowledge. If there is a tie for any of the Top 16 places, the person with the lowest number of duels lost will advance. If this does not break the tie, the tied players will have a tiebreaker round to determine who advances to the Top 16. The bracket for Top 16 will not be random. The person with the best record of the Top 16 will first be paired with the person with the worst record in the Top 16 and pairings will converge in this manner for the bracket.

2. You will be required to send a PM to me containing your deck list. Your registration will not be accepted until you do this. I will not share your deck list with anyone (unless you make it to the Top 16). PICTURES AND SCREENSHOTS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. I must see your deck list in a format the same as or similar to:

Monsters(##):

...etc

Traps(##):

Extra Deck (##):

Side Deck (##):

If you are not using an Extra Deck or a Side Deck, you must still include it in your deck list and will simply put (00) for the number of cards in it.

3. Registration will be open from Thursday, March 1 until midnight (GMT+0) on Sunday, March 11.

4. [OPTIONAL] Along with your deck list, you may optionally answer the following questionnaire. I will not reveal names of anyone who takes the questionnaire, but there will be an article regarding it after the tournament begins.

-What deck(s) do you expect to see the most for this tournament?

-What deck(s) do you think will make it all the way to the Top 16?

-Which side deck card do you think is going to help you out the most in this tournament?

-What is your favorite card?

-Aside from yourself, which other duelist(s) do you expect to see in the Top 16?


-=PRIZES=-


==The winner of this tournament will receive immediate advancement to the Abandoned Dark Dorm along with a banner to show off in his/her signature. The top 5% of duelists (rounded up to the nearest duelist) will receive a dorm advancement.

==For every duelist who registers, the total prize pool of this tournament will be increased by 500 DP. Prizes will be given out to the top 10% of duelists. In the case where more than 160 duelists enter this tournament, only the Top 16 will receive prizes.

Howdy everyone and welcome! It is finally time to kick off this year's
Yugioh Championship Series - Duel Academy with the round 1 pairings.
Before we start, a few announcements!

1. Each round will last 1 week and will end every Sunday at midnight. Please post match results as 2-0 or 2-1 in the thread where you're allowed to post.

2. I will be taking submissions for Featured Matches! Send me a video of
your match, and have your opponent PM me with permission to use it
(since it would show at least part of the opponent's deck, you need
his/her permission). If the match does not contain any major errors in
rulings, I will create an article for it as a Featured Match!

3. Prizes and Bounties will be posted shortly, as will another article based on the optional questionnaire from registration!

4. A REMINDER: All duels are match duels. That means best 2 out of 3.

Round 3 Pairings!

Announcements:

1. The following duelists have been DISQUALIFIED due to inactivity.

This decreases the current number of participants to 64 now, which means everyone else has a better chance at making it to the Top 16! These 3 must now walk the walk of shame and will receive a DP PENALTY and will not be allowed to enter future tournaments.

2. There were an additional 11 duelists this time who received forfeits due to inactivity! This is not good people! Be active and complete your duels! PM's will be sent to each of these duelists to remind them to stay active or face penalties.

3. Be sure to submit more matches to me for Featured Matches! Remember you just need to make a video of your match and get approval from your opponent before PM'ing me with the video!

4. At the end of this round I will start sending requests to people for Featured Deck articles. Your deck list will not be shown unless you make Top 16 still, but the article will give a summary of what your deck is and how it operates. For the Swiss portion, I will only be sending requests to people not running meta decks, but who have shown that their decks are able to win some matches. ;D

Round 4 Pairings!

This now decreases the number of participants to 58. Hey active people - your chances to make Top 16 have increased again! These schmucks are to be punished in accordance to DA rules. They will receive a DP PENALTY and will not be allowed to participate in future tournaments.

2. There were an additional 12 members who were inactive last round but have not been DQ'd yet. PM's will be sent to them to remind them to be active or suffer the consequences!

Round 5 Pairings!

Announcements:

1. The following duelists have been DISQUALIFIED due to inactivity:

We're now down to just 45 duelists left! By my count, if you can nab 5 wins you're probably a shoe-in for the Top 16! If you can grab 4 wins, I think you may still have a chance, more so if even more people keep dropping out! That being said, there was a lot of yellow in this past round. Not good people. In addition to the above 8, there were a whole bunch of others who also went inactive. As I've said before, sometimes it's not the best that make it far - sometimes it's just the people who complete their matches every week!

2. Continuous, standard reminder to send me videos for FEATURED MATCH articles.

3. Sorry, had a very busy week and couldn't finish the 1st FEATURED DECK article, so I'll be doing 2 of them this week! Look for them!

1. Sorry for the delay folks! I had some cat things I had to do recently and just today had time to end round 5 and post pairings for round 6! Please forgive me! Round 6 will last until Sunday night at midnight GMT 0!

Round 7 Pairings!

Announcements:

1. The following duelists have been DISQUALIFIED due to inactivity:

KingMP94, Pilover, Pabel, TheRingmaster

They have brought shame upon their families and shall be penalized for it. There DQ's decrease the total number of players in the tournament to 36! Keep going guys/gals!

2. We're getting into the last couple rounds of the tournament, and as such we can start to see who still has a chance to advance to the Top 16, and who no longer is able to do it. As such, anyone who has 2 wins or less, I'm sorry to say but your chances for a tournament win are over. In order to hopefully speed up the last couple rounds before the Top 16, I'm going to have to ask you to leave. None of you will be penalized, and I hope you had an enjoyable time playing in the YCS. Please come again next year!

This now brings us down to just 29 duelists remaining! It's gonna be a battle to make those Top 16 spots!

Im sorry folks, seeing this isnt something I normally do. But I am unable to be online long enough to be labelled active enough for tournament duties.

2. It is the final round of Swiss now! As the chips have fallen, due to a few double forfeits last round, everyone here is still actually a possible contender (although some will need a lot of matches to go right) for the Top 16! Anyone with a record of 4 matches won and 7 duels lost or worse (includes everyone who has only 3 matches won) MUST win to have a chance to advance to Top 16! Additionally, just because some of you are already guaranteed a spot, remember that the single elimination tournament is SEEDED, so an extra win now could land you up against easier opponents in the brackets!

3. I'm working on a new Featured Deck article and 2 new Featured Match articles. I will try to find time this week (have been abnormally busy) to get those done and posted for your enjoyment!

4. Again, this is the FINAL ROUND OF SWISS! This is what it's all about! The Top 16 will be decided by next Sunday at the latest! Good luck to you all!

TOP 16


It has been a long and difficult journey for the 16 duelists who have made it this far. The Swiss Rounds are now officially over. Thank you to everyone who participated in them, and I hope you all found enjoyment in seeing the long-term effectiveness of your decks. Now it is time, however, to move on to something greater. The Top 16 single elimination tournament!

I will be posting the Top 16 decklists shortly for all the remaining competitors to see, and for all on-lookers to view as well. There will be an article discussing what decks made it to the top. I will finish up Featured Deck and Featured Match articles. If you want to send me Top 16 Featured Match videos, you no longer need permission from your opponent to do so, because his/her deck is already going to be out in the open for all to see!

The Top 16 is a seeded tournament, and the man to beat right now is Magician of Black Chaos, who comes into the Top 16 with a perfect record of 8 matches won. The closest competition to him have only 6 matches won, so will he continue his tremendous streak all the way to the top, or will there be an opponent who can shut him down? Let's find out!
