Card of the Week #33: Mind Control
Mind Control is an incredibly good card with a large number of potential uses. At face value, it is actually a +1 for CA, as you gain a card, they lose a card, and you had to play one card. This effect lasting till the end phase will probably not matter, as it's easy to find applications of your new card that won't involve tributing.
To begin with, you can take cards like Volcasaurus or Big Eye to use their effects. Xyzs are incredibly good targets for this use of the card, as you can not only degrade the effectiveness of your opponent's card by using the last of their materials, you can also gain the benefits of their effects. This makes Mind Control a very good way of getting even with whatever your opponent did last turn.
Another good application of the card is for Xyz plays. Most decks run a good number of Level 4 monsters, and taking one for your own Rank 4 play is a very good way of removing them from the field while getting a strong monster out of it.
The most common use of this card is in Synchro decks. With a well-rounded extra deck, you can use Mind Control as a way to take your opponent's high-level monster and make your own with it. If running this card in a Synchro deck, I would recommend running Goyo Guardian (6), Black Rose Dragon (7), at least 1 Level 8 (Seriously, what Synchro decks are there that don't use Level 8s? Don't answer that.), Giganticastle (9), and Leo, the Keeper of the Sacred Tree (10). Consider Star Eater (11) as well, if using Level 3 or 4 tuners. This would give you a monster for every Level between 6 and 11.
