Card of the Week #27: Reinforcement of the Army
This card, often referred to as "ROTA" due to the long name, is a search that can be used in any Warrior deck you can think of. Search cards add a massive degree of versatility and consistency to any deck, as drawing one allows you to pick the best card for the current situation. ROTA is amongst the most widely usable search cards, and for a long time was limited.
Since the most recent banlist, however, you have been able to play up to 2 of this card in your decks. Just upping the number by one may not seem like such a huge difference, but it could give extra consistency to all kinds of decks. HEROes, Noble Knights, Lightsworn, and many other decks can make use of the card, and it is this "splashability" that makes it worthy of being on the banlist.
Many Warrior cards can be used for quick Rank 4 Xyz plays, and this card allows you to select the card you require to make the ideal of such a play for the situation you are in. For example, if your deck runs even a single Heroic Challenger: Extra sword and you have a Photon Thrasher in hand, you could search out the Extra Sword for your Rank 4 play. An attack boost of 1000 is a very powerful effect if you can use it, and with cards like Blade Armour Ninja you can make particularly strong plays without having to be lucky enough to simply draw the card you want. Search power allows you to choose that card, and with 2 of these in the deck it would massively increase your chances of responding to situations adequately.
When the new HERO cards in the OCG come out in TCG, HEROs will have more searches than any deck could hope for. 2 ROTAs will just be the icing on the cake, considering that they also currently have 3 Emergency Calls and will have 3 Shadow Mist and 3 Blazeman. 11 search cards is absolutely ridiculous in terms of consistency, and there will be very few situations they cannot respond to. While ROTA is not instrumental to this, it will certainly play a part, and will be able to search out other search cards for even greater versatility in the deck.
Overall, ROTA is undeniably a very good card, and grants potential for many different possible plays in Warrior decks. Goblindbergh, Photon Thrasher, and Elemental HERO Bubbleman are all Warrior type monsters with effects that help with making Rank 4 Xyzs, which brings access to all kinds of cards in an Extra Deck built for many different situations. You can also search cards like Junk Synchron in Synchro decks, meaning it has use in pretty much any deck that runs Level 4 or lower Warrior monsters. If I had to sum this card up in one word, it would be "versatility".
