Jenna Talackova, the Canadian transsexual beauty queen, is asking that Donald Trump eliminate the rule that Miss Universe contestants must be naturally born females.
Seeing as Ms. Talackova was born male and therefore wasn't a naturally born female, the rules said she cannot compete. Talackova had sexual reassignment surgery at age 19, she asked for Mr. Trump to allow her to compete and for the rule to be reconsidered.
Mr. Trump then announced for Talackova is allowed to compete as long as she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada. This wasn't enough for Talackova as she was fighting on behalf of all transsexuals and not just herself, at one point her lawyer even stated "Mr. Trump, admit that you are wrong and get rid of your Trumped-up rule".
Trump released this statement "Pageant rules have been modernized to ensure this type of issue does not occur again. Gloria's arguments were made moot by the decision rendered yesterday.... Like all the contestants, Mr. Trump wishes Jenna the best of luck in her quest for the crown." and Ms. Talackova's lawyer responded with "All that Jenna wants, all that she has ever wanted, is to compete on the same basis as everyone else, She deserves that chance. We say to Mr. Trump open your eyes and your heart. Put aside any fears, prejudices, or stereotypes and see Jenna for who she is, a woman."
The crown for Miss Universe Canada will be awarded May 19 in Toronto. What do you think, was Trump wrong in letting her compete or correct?
