Their most obvious effect is their ability to return to the field as Continuous Spell cards. If you actually take the time to look at the effects, they're quite effective to destructive Spell/Trap effects that your opponents use.
You could make a deck based around summoning Rainbow Dragon, and especially keeping him there. As he has 4000+ ATK and an optional full-field Spin effect, he can prove to be quite powerful. Just add some cards to add Rainbow Dragon to your hand, and then add some cards to destroy/mill your Crystal Beasts, and viola- Rainbow Dragon! Also, with Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins, and a few remaining Crystal Beasts, you can pwn your opponent in a few turns!
You can make this a OTK by getting 4 Crystal Beasts, then activating Crystal Abundance to clear your opponent's field, then summon 5 Beasts with at least 1600 ATK each. Your opponent's field is open, and you can perform the coup de grace.
Also, (my personal favorite), you can make a Crystal Beast Deck into an Exodia OTK. First, get out Brionac (and 4 Crystal Beasts), and activate Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins. Since Ruins lets you draw 1 card each turn, you can make it more than that by returning it to your hand after drawing. Then, if the next card isn't Exodia, discard it to the Grave for Brionac's effect.
Crystal Beasts are especiall powerful, not by themselves, but when used in a strategic combo.
