First topic message reminder :

My room needs to be JAZZED UP! Since I'm a Jazz pianist, first I'll afford a piano first. Looking great!



I'm also a bassist so I'm gonna get one and put it in a corner just like this:



Now it's time to decorate my wall! Because of spending all the money for the piano and double bass, I couldn't be able to buy the dots so this wall will be temporary.



And now all I need is to do that one ritual that every Asian people do when they move to a new house.....



Great It's all set. Now I need to earn some money to buy the dots.

Well I was classically trained for 6-7 years. To be honest, I was a kid those years so I really don't remember many classical pieces. After learning classical for 4 years, I found a style called New Age and I really like it a lot. I started researching New Age and mimic what I hear. It was a hard time since I had no skill at all. Later I found out that my favorite New Age musician - Jim Chappell is a Jazz musician, I started listening to jazz -easy-listening styles like Bossa Nova or Smooth Jazz and I fall in love with it. Why? It's simple. It's light music. It sounds relax, peaceful for my eyes. When I was in 9th grade I asked my father if I could study Jazz (my father was a music theory master in Vietnam National Academy of Music) and he said that the Jazz department hadn't been established yet and noone was teaching Jazz in this very music academy. I felt very upset because I didn't have what I like (of course, being a child is like that, being upset whenever you could and harm your liver). I kept on researching until I was in 11th grade. Now that the Jazz department has been established. Teachers from Sweden came to Vietnam to teach Jazz and I finally could change my majoy to Jazz. But before that, I almost could no longer play music because I had a stupid fight with my dad over an umbrella and punched through the window. My right arm was ripped apart but luckily it was healed after months. Now I learn how to treasure my body and dedicate my life to music. It's just sad that my father is not with me anymore to see me growing up.

Well you know, I belive you can't be a good jazz musicians without having experience with classical music. I am a big fan of jazz also, tho I've never had that same push like you in my years of studying. 

My musical path was almost a certainty because my mom and my sister are musician (only my father is an arabic teacher ) and I grew up with classical music. When the time came and I was 4 year old I was put on the piano and 10 years later I'm hoping to go far into this road. 

You know I will tell you one thing. What I've learned so far in my little life is that whatever happens to us can give us both negative and positive emotions. In music both are essential to the way we express your feelings when you play. People say you need talent to be a good musician and yes, to some extent they are right. But you need to be able to feel happiness, sadness, pain, remorse and every happy or sad emotion. And when you connect your music with your life experiences you find new meaning in what you do as a whole...do that, play with love for the music, for the things you've lost and the things you'll gain and you will make your father proud!

I teach kids and play music in bars :s Normal life.

How much do you get?

300-500k VND it's like 15-25$ or something lol but you know my country is poor so that amount of money is a lot. You can have full breakfast with 1$ = 20k VND.

I meant a month lol. Do you get 25 dollars a month?

I earn 6000000 VND <=> 250-260$. Fuck my life.

Lol, admittedly it's really hard to earn money with music...but if you get to the right people and you are good enough you can...

Everyone can earn some money. The point is getting a stable large income of money lol

Yeah well that is the hard things as a musician. The only way you can have a stable income of money is you become a teacher somewhere. Even if you are very good there isn't a sureness you are gonna get a lot of concerts...

It's a hard job, but laso one of the most satisfying ones if you have the luck to bwcome one of the best...

Like all arts basically. I know cuz i was a vocalist not long ago. My family is basically an artsy one, but they ofc realized art makes you broke, so im pursuing something else. It's a shame but thats the way it is.

@CrimsonOverlord Hm I don't think I can fit in any other majors, I don't intend to betray my likings either. I want to do what I like. Just like what pep said, to have stable income there's only one way that's becoming a teacher. That kinda sounds lame because you spent all your time in hell practicing and when you're outside you only teach. We never want that but life is tough I have to make teaching be my main job.

Also pep you're 15 wtf. That made you.....a secondary student? I'm in college you know ._.

Now look dudes. Music is a dead job to most. It's not because of lack of talent or anything...but because a lack of people to get you to the top. If you arent born with those people or some special ties you are mostly doomed. THAT tho doesn't mean there is no hope. The road is hard, but as I said vert rewarding. 

Yeah Cent I'm in 9th grade curently. But I mean is that your stable income comes from teaching. Not that this should be your main income if you are a concerting musician for example. 

I don't know what we are doing is something many people have deemed hell. Got confused in my own thoughts lol...

I decided teaching to be my main job. Not like I can play gigs forever. Also I really just don't want to go out at night for some bucks. My country is really dangerous, especially in the bars, cafes, lounges.

And yeah maybe there's another way to have stable income that's begging people on the street for black dog vietnamese sandwiches.

Wow, 600 dollars are actually not bad. If you are in college you can have some decent time with this money if you still get some from your family. 

Don't know thi dude, my sister is 21 and is currently following in Austria (music). She is mostly living on my dads money, but there are people that are gonna be sponsoring her soon, whoch is basically gonna make all of our lives easier. It's just a matter of whether you can get to the roght people...

If you're studying in college in my country, having 3.000.000 VND <=> 132.12 USD a month will keep you alive. You can't use all of it.
